5 upcoming fuel-efficient cars in India
Constantly rising fuel prices have affected a lot of people. With wobbling budgets, people have now started considering alternative options like hybrid and fully electric cars. Electric cars are still in the nascent stages in the country. Before shifting to fully electric cars, some manufacturers want buyers to experience hybrids. Hybrid cars are the perfect stop-go technology before we transition to fully electric cars. There are a number of upcoming hybrid vehicles planned for India. The biggest benefit would be their high fuel-efficiency figures. So, in today’s article, let’s talk about these 5 upcoming fuel-efficient vehicles.
Toyota Innova HyCross
The Innova has been an iconic MPV in the Indian market. Now Toyota is taking it a step further by giving Innova a major update. There are rumours that Toyota might remove the diesel engine in favour of a hybrid setup. The new Innova will be switching from a ladder-on-frame chassis to a monocoque. So when will Toyota launch it? Reportedly, it will come sometime in September. Upcoming hybrid vehicles – Hyundai Verna
The Hyundai Verna will be soon getting a major update in the form of a generation upgrade. Hyundai is already testing the new Verna in South Korea, and the car has also been spotted in India as well. The new Verna is rumoured to get mild-hybrid technology in this update. A mild hybrid system makes sense, considering the upcoming emission norms. But, when is the new Verna coming? Hyundai is expected to unveil the new Verna at the Auto Expo 2023.
Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder
The Urban Cruiser HyRyder is Toyota’s answer to the popular Hyundai Creta. Toyota unveiled this SUV in July. The brand is taking on the competition in this segment with mild and strong hybrid setups. The HyRyder comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid setup. This combination is capable of producing 114bhp & 122Nm of torque. The HyRyder also comes with an AWD setup, but for that, buyers would have to opt for the mild hybrid setup.
Maruti Grand Vitara
Following the Urban Cruiser HyRydyer is its sister car, the Maruti Grand Vitara. Last month, Maruti unveiled this SUV. The Grand Vitara gets a different design than the HyRyder, but mechanically both are the same. This one also comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid setup making 113bhp & 122Nm of torque. Maruti claims a mileage of 27.97kmpl with this hybrid setup. What about the launch? Maruti is expected to launch the Grand Vitara sometime in September.
Upcoming hybrid vehicles – Honda SUV
Honda is another manufacturer which is betting heavily on hybrid technology. Earlier this year, Honda launched the City Hybrid. The City Hybrid comes with Honda’s e:HEV technology. What about Honda’s future products? Honda is developing a C-segment SUV for the Indian market. This SUV is expected to come with a some sort of hybrid setup to firmly take on the competition and is expected to hit the market sometime in 2024 or 2025.
