Toyota and Maruti have long been in collaboration with each other if we consider the Indian market. They have been developing and sharing products with each other for quite some time now. The latest to come out of this collaboration are the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Grand Vitara mid-size SUVs. The Toyota SUV was unveiled on 1st July whereas the Maruti SUV debuted today. Although both SUVs have been made in collaboration, there are many buyers who would be confused regarding the differences that both the SUVs carry. Design

Now, this department has the maximum differences in both the SUVs. The Maruti Grand Vitara gets chrome element which separates the front grille and the bonnet. The front fascia looks inspired by the the new-generation Suzuki S-Cross sold outside India. Three-element DRLs with integrated turn indicators take the eyebrow spot. The side profile of both the SUVs are similar, however there are different alloy wheels to mark the difference. The rear fascia of the Maruti SUV connecting tail lamp design with three-piece elements. However, the tail lamp do not run across the whole of the rear but rather part aside the symbol.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder also gets a similar overall look, however has its unique design elements. The twin eyebrow LED DRLs and the smaller grille which integrate with each other gives the SUV a muscular look. Contrary to the Grand Vitara, this SUV gets disconnected LED tail lamps. As mentioned above, the alloy wheels create the difference for these mid-size SUVs. 

When considering the interiors, only seating & upholstery makes the difference here. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets Black & Brown interiors whereas the Grand Vitara gets Rich Black faux leather with Champagne Gold accents.

Both the SUVs share a lot of mechanical bits and are similar in almost every sense. Both of them come with mild hybrid and strong hybrid setup. However, one thing to note here is that the powertrains have minute differences in output figures. Taking into consideration the Maruti Grand Vitara, the mild hybrid setup (1.5-litre petrol with ISG) makes 103bhp & 137Nm of torque whereas the strong hybrid setup (1.5-litre petrol with Intelligent Hybrid System) makes 113bhp & 122Nm of torque. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder, on the other hand, with the mild hybrid setup (1.5-litre Neodrive) makes 101bhp & 135Nm of torque whereas the strong hybrid setup (1.5-litre petrol with Hybrid) makes 114bhp & 122Nm of torque. Overall, these minute differences are not expected to create a huge difference in the real world. Both these SUVs come with All-Wheel-Drive setup.

Maruti has also revealed the claimed mileage figures of its SUV. This SUV with mild hybrid setup would return 21.11 kmpl (MT), 20.58 kmpl (AT), 19.38 kmpl (ALLGRIP MT). The strong setup on the other hand returns 27.97 kmpl.

Features

Features are one more thing that both the cars share. Panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, floating 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, coloured heads-up display, wireless charging, fully digital instrument cluster and connected car tech with 40+ connected features are some of them. Both SUVs also come with six airbags, ESP with hill-hold, hill descent control and TPMS.

Although, pricing for both the SUVs have not been revealed yet, we expect slight difference in the final pricing. Although both SUVs are expected to start from somewhere between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (on-road), we expect a price difference of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000, depending on the variants.

Warranty

Grand Vitara vs Hyryder

Toyota is offering a 3 year or 1 lakh km on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder which can be extended to 5 year or 2.2 lakh km. The battery attracts a warranty of 8 year or 1.6 lakh km on the strong hybrid setup. Maruti has not made its warranty schemes official. However, warranty for both brands might differ as we have seen with the Toyota Urban Cruiser and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
