Electric cars are slowly gathering momentum in India. The growth is slow due to the lack of affordable options in the market. Also, we don’t have any hatchback options in the market. Traditionally, hatchbacks have been doing well in our country. Thankfully, manufacturers are working on some affordable electric hatchbacks that are planned for the country. MG is a manufacturer that has always dared to explore niche segments. It already sells the ZS EV, but now it is looking to bring an affordable electric option. MG is taking a different route with a two-door compact car, the Wuling Air. The MG Air gets a compact but practical design. With its compact dimensions, it should be a great city car. MG has given it premium interiors with a two-spoke steering wheel and two 10.25-inch screens. What about the range? The Air comes with 200km and 300km range options. MG has already confirmed that it will be launching a compact EV for the masses. MG could debut the Air at the Auto Expo 2023.

Currently, Tata is leading the EV segment in India. Its plan of converting its existing cars into EVs has done wonders for the brand. Reportedly, Tata is now working on making an EV version of the Tiago a reality. So what could it get? It is expected to share its specifications with the Tigor EV. So it could get a 26kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 306km. The motor could be identical to the Tigor EV which is capable of producing 74bhp & 170Nm of torque. Tata could unveil it at the Auto Expo 2023 and price it aggressively to take on the competition.

Renault Kwid EV

Like the Tata Tiago, Renault could also do the same with the Kwid. Actually, it already sells the Kwid EV in China. The Kwid EV looks identical to the ICE-powered version. It does get some blue highlights and EV badging. What about the range? The Kwid EV comes with a 26kWh battery pack giving it a claimed range of 260km. According to Renault, it can go from 0% to 80% in 50mins on a fast charger. When could it launch? Earlier Renault had hinted that it can bring the Kwid EV to India if there is demand. If Renault can bring it under Rs 10 lakh, it can attract a lot of buyers.
