Currently, compact SUVs are the hottest body type in our market. All manufacturers have SUVs in this segment, barring Honda. Honda completely missed the SUV craze by sticking with its sedans and crossovers. Thankfully, Honda has learned that it cannot continue with this old strategy and has started working on two SUVs with the compact one being a priority. The compact SUV will be based on the Amaze platform. Earlier this month, a car fitting this bill was spotted in Indonesia. So what else do we know about it? Design
As mentioned above, a compact Honda SUV was spotted in Indonesia. The SUV had a design inspired by the RS SUV concept which Honda revealed last year. What more does it reveal? We see a big chrome grille with a chequered design. This grille also boasts the RS badging. The side profile is still a mystery. What about the rear? Honda SUV – Specifications
The Honda vehicle is said to be based on the Amaze platform. Honda has taken this decision to keep costs in check. Coming to the engine options, Honda currently has a 1.2-litre petrol engine (90bhp & 110Nm of torque) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (99bhp & 200Nm of torque). Honda could use these same engine options on the compact SUV. However, Honda should re-tune this engine to give this SUV an edge over the competition. Could a turbocharged petrol engine be in the plans? Possible, but only time will tell Honda’s concrete plans. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic gearbox options.
Features
All cars in the compact SUV segment come loaded with features. So Honda will have to do the same with this vehicle. What can Honda add? Honda SUV is expected to come with features like a big infotainment system, sunroof, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, etc. Could Honda offer ADAS on this SUV? We don’t expect Honda to bring ADAS on this car. However, we never know if Honda might surprise everyone with this feature since it is already very late to the game and would want to create a strong mark in its segment.
Launch plans
According to reports, Honda has plans to launch the compact SUV in 2023. Once Honda launches the mysterious SUV in Indonesia, we will get a clear idea about what to expect from this SUV. Once launched, it will compete with cars like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza.
