Tata is riding high on the success of its SUV lineup. Cars like Nexon, Nexon EV, Harrier and Safari have been bringing in the numbers, but the start of this revival was started by the Tata Tiago. However, Tiago does fall short in some areas where it main rival, the Swift shines. For reference, Tata sold 5,310 units of the Tiago, which is a respectable figure. In comparison, Maruti sold 16,213 units of the Swift. To bridge this gap, Tata is touted to be working on a new generation model of the Tiago. Tata will be hoping this generational change boosts its sales. In today’s article, we will talk about this new Maruti Swift rival.

Maruti Swift rival – New specifications

The current generation Tiago is built on the X0 platform. So will the new generation be based on a different platform? Yes, we expect the new-generation Tiago to be based on the Alfa Architecture like the Altroz and Punch. The current Tiago comes with a four-crash test rating from Tiago, and with the newer platform, it is expected to get a five-star rating from GNCAP. What about the engine specifications? The Tiago will most likely continue with the same engine specifications. So it could continue with the 1.2-litre petrol engine with manual and AMT options. The CNG option is also expected to continue since buyers are focused on fuel prices more than ever.

New dimensions & design

With the new platform, the new-generation Tiago is expected to be bigger than the current model. It is speculated to be 10mm longer, 78mm wider, and 5mm taller. What about the design? It is expected to be based on Tata’s ‘Impact 3.0’ design language. So we can expect a new grille and headlamp design. Other changes could include a new bumper, faux skid plates, and new alloy wheels.

Maruti Swift rival – Features

Features have become an essential part of the car buying experience. Even in such affordable hatchbacks, people want more & more features. So Tata will have to load the Tiago with a lot of new features. It could get new features like an improved infotainment system, cruise control, ambient lighting, automatic wipers and headlamps, a smart key and all-seat adjustable headrests.

Note – The Tiago already comes loaded with multiple features including a premium sound system from Harman.

Launch and pricing

There is nothing official from Tata regarding the new-generation Tiago, but it was last updated in 2020 (facelift). So naturally, the next update should be a generational upgrade. When can we expect the new-generation Tiago? Considering Tata’s recent records, we can expect the new generation to come by 2023 or 2024. What about the price hike? Considering the changes, the new generation is expected to be Rs 70,000 to 80,000 more expensive than the outgoing model.
