Toyota’s most popular product in India, without a doubt, has been the Fortuner. The Fortuner dominates the full-size SUV segment and enjoys a complete monopoly. Over the years, several products did try to dethrone the Fortuner, but only the Ford Endeavour could prove to be an actual threat. Sadly with Ford gone, Toyota is having a free run in the segment now. Toyota has been constantly hiking this SUV’s price and it now costs well over Rs 50 lakhs. But does the Toyota Fortuner actually make sense in 2022 and that too for this price? In today’s article, let’s talk about this.

Aggressive Design

Toyota Fortuner 2022

The Fortuner has evolved into an aggressive mean-looking car. With the facelift in 2021, Toyota gave the Fortuner a bigger grille which enhances its mean look. Sharp-looking headlamps have also been well integrated into the front design. What about the side profile? In the sides, we see the upright design of the Fortuner. This look is enhanced with R18 alloy wheels. At the rear, we have sleek taillamps with the Fortuner badging in the middle. Like other Toyota cars, the Fortuner comes with a lot of chrome elements to maintain a striking balance between premiumness and muscularity.

Toyota Fortuner 2022 – Specifications

The Fortuner comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The preferred option among buyers is generally diesel in this segment, but Toyota does give an option of petrol. It comes with a 2.7-litre petrol engine capable of producing 163bhp & 245Nm of torque. What about the diesel engine? The diesel is a 2.8-litre unit capable of producing 201bhp & 420Nm(MT)/500Nm(AT) of torque. The cherry on the top here is the 4WD option, irrespective of how many buyers actually use it.

Features

Toyota Fortuner 2022

The Fortuner is often criticised for its low features, but it does come with all the necessary ones. An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 11-speaker JBL sound system, driving modes, ventilated front seats, cruise control, wireless charging, and dual-zone climate control are made available in this SUV. With that being said, the interior and the features available still project the Fortuner as a rugged machine, rather than a fancy-looking SUV. If you are looking for a truly feature-rich car, the Fortuner might not be the car for you.

Toyota Fortuner 2022 – Conclusion

Toyota Fortuner 2022

So, does the Fortuner make sense in 2022? It depends on who you are asking? As a product, the Fortuner doesn’t have any match when it comes to capabilities and the big SUV feel. There are only a few cars available in the market today that can match it in terms of road presence. The Fortuner is the perfect car if you want peace of mind when it comes to reliability and resale value as well. Yes, you miss out on features, but that is something you will have to compromise on. In short, the Fortuner does make sense since you will not have to worry a lot about resale when you plan to make your next purchase with this SUV in your garage.
