Maruti Jimny update

According to new reports, Maruti is working on launching the Jimny by mid-2023. So why such a long timeline considering it already manufactures the Jimny in India? Maruti is working on a five-door version specially for the Indian market. Not only that, Maruti could be going one step further by giving five-seater and seven-seater options. Another reason for the delay has been the supply constraints. But thankfully, Maruti is expected to soon get over this issue.

What else can we expect?

The 5-door Jimny will still be a sub-four-metre car to gain tax benefits. So what will be its length? It is expected to be around 3900mm in length. Other dimensions will be similar to the 3-door Jimny. The design will be also identical with some minor changes. What are these changes? It could get Gypsy-inspired bumper-mounted tail lamps, externally mounted spare wheel, etc.

The Jimny staying true to its roots will be based on a ladder on frame chassis. What about the engine options? The Jimny will sport Maruti’s trusted 1.5-litre engine. This engine is capable of producing 100bhp & 130Nm of torque. So, will this be enough for a 5-door Jimny? Only time will tell. The Jimny is expected to get Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive technology giving it off-road capabilities. This is one area where the Jimny is expected to shine.
