Maruti does manufacture the Jimny in India, but for export markets. The brand had been evaluating the Jimny for India but has not confirmed anything yet. So the question arises that will we ever get to see the Maruti Jimny in India. Maruti will have to price it right if it wants to take sales away from Mahindra Thar. So, Maruti could very well be balancing out its strategy to make the Jimny a bang-on product and this could be one reason for the delay as well.

Maruti is expected to be working on a five-door Jimny for the Indian customers rather than directly sell the three-door Jimny. Indian buyers are value-conscious and Maruti knows this very well. This is the reason why Maruti rules the affordable hatchback segment in the country. So, Maruti’s focus on developing a five-door version for the Indian market could be another cause for the delay.

Maruti has tried entering different segments in the past. But it has not achieved the same level of success with each & every product. It had tried this with the Kizashi, which flopped miserably. So Maruti doesn’t want to add another failure in the form of Jimny. The market for the lifestyle vehicle segment is still in its infancy stage. 

So will we ever see the Maruti Jimny in India?

India is a very important market for Maruti Suzuki. So it would look to launch the Jimny in India. Also, the recent success of Mahindra Thar has shown that there is a market for such vehicles. So we will see Jimny in India once Maruti manages to solve the issues.
