Maruti Jimny to be better than Mahindra Thar?

According to a report from ETAuto, Maruti is working a Jimny launch in India by the first quarter of fiscal 2024. Why the delay? Maruti is working on a 5-door version specially for the Indian market. This 5-door Jimny will come in 5-seater & 7-seater options to target a larger user base. According to sources, the supply constraints have been the major reason behind the delayed launch.
Jimny 5-door launch – Dimensions and design
The 5-seater Jimny will be under sub-four-metre to gain maximum tax benefits. It is expected to be around 3850mm in length. What about other dimensions, we expect them to be similar to the 3-door version. Coming to the design, it will get some subtle changes to differentiate it from the 3-door variants but the basics are expected to remain similar. Similar round headlamps, Gypsy-inspired bumper mounted tail lamps, externally-mounted spare wheel, etc. will be a part of the package.
Specifications
Like any true off-roader, the Jimny is based on ladder-on-frame chassis. The 5-seater Jimny will come with Maruti’s 1.5-litre petrol engine. Maruti already uses this engine on its other cars like Brezza, Ertiga and XL6. So what will be the power figures? It is expected to churn out 100bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. The Jimny will get a low range transfer gear and Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4 wheel drive technology as well to make it a capable off-roader.
Jimny 5-door launch – Features
Will an off-roader like Jimny come with features? We certainly think it will come with features like all power windows, some basic Suzuki Connect features, a semi-digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system with off-roading statistics.
Will it be better than Mahindra Thar?
Since Maruti is planning to launch the 5-door Jimny in 5-seater & 7-seater configurations, it will definitely be able to cater to more number of buyers who have been waiting for a lifestyle vehicle that they can take families in. Moreover, we are expecting the Jimny 5-door to be priced very aggressively when compared to the Thar. This too could be its major USP. The Mahindra Thar would definitely be unmatched in terms of power but the Jimny is expected to come out as a great value-for-money option. This is the reason why maximum buyers are waiting for it.
