Mahindra had quite a head start in the EV segment. It had cars like the Reva and eVerito but these cars bombed in the passenger segment, and Mahindra had to take a step back. Now, Mahindra is ready to make a grand comeback in the EV segment with better planning. It will be unveiling its ground-up EVs under the Born Electric scheme in July. The brand is also bringing an electric version of the XUV300 which the brand is expected to call the XUV400. The XUV400 has been in the news lately and will reportedly be getting a special segment-first feature. So what is this special feature that the Mahindra XUV400 could get? Let’s find that out in today’s article.

What is this special feature?

Mahindra XUV400 feature

The XUV400 will be an important product in Mahindra’s electric ambitions. So, Mahindra would definitely be looking to load it with features. According to reports and rumours, the XUV400 is expected to come with ADAS functionality. This will give it a major lead over the Nexon EV, the Nexon EV Max and the ZS EV facelift (it only gets a few features like lane change assist, blind-spot detection and rear-cross traffic alert). What could be the ADAS level? We expect it to come with level 1 ADAS but we never know if Mahindra might surprise us. This special feature will definitely enhance this EV’s value-for-money quotient.

What else do we know?

Mahindra XUV400 feature

It is almost certain that this SUV will be called XUV400. There are confirmed reports that the XUV400 will not be a sub-four-metre car. It will be based on the original SsangYong Tivoli platform. This extra length will help it accommodate a bigger boot, one area which came out to be the biggest weakness of the XUV300. We will get to see some new styling bits on the XUV400 when compared to the XUV300. Spy shots of the unique rear are already out and we expect to see some new bits in the front fascia as well.

Battery and powertrain information is limited for now. According to reports, it could get a 150bhp motor. What about the range figures? We don’t know that either, but Mahindra is using high-density NMC cells that will give it good performance and range figures.

Launch & Pricing

The XUV400 has already been spotted testing on roads. Moreover, a recent leak revealed a bit of the tail lamp design. The XUV400 is expected to see a launch sometime in early 2023, with the unveil expected to take place by the end of this year. The XUV400 will offer a bigger boot as it is going to measure around 4200mm. With this and the features that it will come with, we expect the pricing to be somewhere between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra is recent times has been pricing its products very aggressively and we expect the same with this electric SUV as well.
