Why Toyota cars have no sunroof?
Cars have gone through a drastic transformation in the last few years. Manufacturers are trying their best to enhance the overall cabin experience. This has made the sunroof very popular in newer cars. Almost all cars above Rs 10 lakhs now come with a sunroof. So why does the Toyota Fortuner, a Rs 60 lakh car, miss out on a sunroof? Climatic conditions
Toyota’s point of view is that the sunroof doesn’t suit the Indian climatic conditions. What’s the issue? In India, temperatures can reach up to 40-degree celsius. A sunroof is rendered useless in such situations. Sunroofs put extra strain on the AC. Also, Toyota cars like Innova and Fortuner come with roof-mounted AC, which can be an issue with a sunroof.
Safety hazards and maintenance
Toyota cars are known for their fuss-free nature. Reliability has been the cornerstone of Toyota. So it doesn’t want to hamper that with sunroofs, as the rubber and seals on the sunroof need regular maintenance. Without regular maintenance, this can lead to leakage in the cabin. What about the safety aspect? Kids sticking their heads out from the sunroof can get dangerous. Toyota wants to avoid all this fuss in its cars.
Will Toyota cars get a sunroof?
If the demand for sunroofs keeps on increasing, Toyota will have to offer a sunroof on all its models. Considering that Brezza is getting a sunroof, we can expect a sunroof on the new Urban Cruiser as well. But what about the Fortuner and Innova? Toyota could bring a sunroof on its other models like the Innova and Fortuner as well but is only expected to do it when the company is assured of maintaining a fuss-free ownership of its cars.
