Honda kind of missed the trick by not bringing SUVs to India sooner. Thankfully Honda seems to have finally understood that it needs SUVs to excel in this market. Reportedly Honda has started work on two new SUVs exclusively for the Indian market. With these SUVs, it is targeting two of the most popular segments in India. In today’s article, we talk about Honda’s two new SUVs.

Compact SUV

Honda’s first SUV will be a compact SUV, considering this segment’s popularity. This segment consists of heavyweights like the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza etc. So how will Honda take on these cars? This new SUV will be based on the Amaze platform to make it affordable. Reportedly, Honda has already finalised the design for this SUV. Coming to the engine options, Honda will give it petrol and diesel engine options. What about features? Honda will have to load it with features to take on the established players. This SUV is expected to be launched sometime in 2023.

Mid-size SUV

After the compact SUV, Honda will be turning its attention to the mid-size SUV segment. Will this also use the Amaze platform? No, this will be based on Honda’s new electronic architecture. It will share its powertrain with the City. The availability of a diesel engine is a big plus point for this SUV. Will it get a hybrid setup too? This mid-size SUV could get a hybrid setup to take on the Toyota & Maruti rival. Honda is also evaluating a 6-seater and 7-seater option to cater for a wider audience.
