SUVs have become the hottest trend in the automotive sector. SUVs are selling like hotcakes. But one thing they lack is good driving dynamics. So what is the solution? The solution is coupe SUVs. Currently, the cheapest coupe SUV is the BMW X4 which starts from Rs 85 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). But the good news is that Mahindra is working on an affordable alternative. It displayed this “Aero Concept” at the Auto Expo 2016. Mahindra might name the production version ‘XUV900’ which is expected to sit above the XUV700. In today’s article, we will talk about a Rs 20 lakh coupe SUV coming soon.
Design
The XUV900 will be quite a unique product in the Indian auto sector. How will it look? The front of the car is expected to borrow design elements from the XUV700 like C-shaped LED DRLs with an aggressive grille. The side profile is expected to see the major changes, thanks to the notchback design. Other design highlights could include stylish alloy wheels and a spoiler.
Engine
So what engines could power this sporty SUV? Mahindra already has some of the most powerful engines available in the market today. So it will be no different on the XUV900. It will mostly sport Mahindra’s 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine. Mahindra might re-tune the engine to produce more power. We also expect Mahindra to tune the suspension to enhance its sporty nature. It might also get a DCT gearbox for its quick-shifting sporty nature.
Rs 20 lakh coupe SUV – Features
The XUV900 will mostly sit as Mahindra’s flagship product in its lineup. So what flagship features could it get? It is sure to get a big infotainment system with AdrenoX, a premium sound system, voice recognition, panoramic sunroof and much more. Other than this, we can also expect ADAS (level 2) to increase its safety quotient. We might also see more innovative features till the launch of the XUV900.
As far as launch is concerned, the car could still be atleast two to three years away. Mahindra is currently working on its Born Electric cars which will be showcased next month. Apart from this, the brand is expected to be working on quite a few cars including the XUV400 (electric XUV300), new-generation Bolero, etc.
