The i20 has done wonders for the Hyundai brand in India. The nameplate has gone from strength to strength. So what else can Hyundai do with the i20? We expect Hyundai to bring the new generation of the Hyundai i20 Active. So why will Hyundai do this? In today’s article, let’s find out.

i20 Active

Hyundai i20 Active

Hyundai launched the i20 Active in 2015 to cash in on the early SUV hype. The i20 Active was a crossover styled variant of the 2rd-generation i20. So what changes did it get? The major change was 20mm more ground clearance. Other than this, it got cosmetic changes like black plastic cladding, roof rails, cornering lamps and aluminium skid plates. What engine option does it get? It used to come with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine.

Case for its return

Hyundai discontinued the i20 Active when it launched the new-generation i20. So why will Hyundai bring it back? The major reason is that Maruti is working on a crossover version of the Baleno. So it makes sense for Hyundai to also bring back an important product in this segment. The Hyundai i20 Active was a decent seller for the brand when it was on sale. So Hyundai will be looking to re-enter this segment.

What will it get?

Like the old generation, Hyundai could give it some subtle changes on the exterior. Hyundai could also increase the ground clearance of the i20. The current generation has a ground clearance of 170mm, so the probable i20 Active can get a ground clearance of 190mm to 195mm. Other than this we don’t expect any mechanical changes.
