Ah! another article on the Maruti Jimny. But hang around as we will be giving some new, IMPORTANT information regarding the Maruti Jimny. Maruti, for its part, has been quite tight-lipped about the Jimny in India. So, according to you, what is Maruti planning to do with the Jimny in India? We are expecting Maruti to be working on the 5-door Jimny, especially for India. We expect the Jimny to be more powerful than the Hyundai Creta. How it will be more powerful than the Creta, we discuss today.

Specifications

Maruti Jimny in India

Globally, the 3-door Jimny comes with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine produces 101bhp & 130Nm of torque. But will 101bhp be sufficient for the 5-door Jimny? We think Maruti would need to give the 5-door Jimny a more powerful engine like their 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit. Maruti is already testing the Swift Sport in India, which uses the same engine. This 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 138bhp & 230Nm of torque. Maruti could tune it for better low-end torque since the Jimny will be an off-roading focused machine. In comparison, Creta’s 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine produces 113bhp & 144Nm of torque. If this happens, the 1.4-litre engine will blow the 1.5-litre of Creta out of competition. We expect this engine to come mated to a manual gearbox as well as an automatic torque converter gearbox. 4X4 drivetrain is expected to be on offer as well.

Now, you might be thinking that the Creta’s 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit makes more power than this. Yes, but since Jimny is expected to be brought in as an affordable lifestyle option, we don’t see the Jimny getting in direct competition with the Creta’s turbo unit when it comes to pricing.

Maruti Jimny in India – Dimensions

Maruti Jimny in India

No prizes for guessing that the Jimny 5-door will be bigger than the 3-door Jimny. As per rumours, the Jimny 5-door will be 3850mm in length. Other dimensions are hard to guess, but they will be similar to the 3-door version i.e. 1645mm width and 1730mm height. The Jimny will be based on a ladder-on-frame chassis that will give it better off-roading manners.

Features

Do you think an off-roader like Jimny needs features? We think it will come with features like all power windows, a basic Suzuki Connect, a small infotainment system with off-roading statistics, semi-digital instrument cluster, etc.
