This Maruti Jimny copycat could come to India
The Jimny is a popular compact off-road in the foreign market. It has been hotly anticipated in India. Maruti is working on a five-door version of the Jimny for India to provide more practical value. But it seems that Great Wall Motors (GWM) has made a Jimny copycat with a five-door version before Suzuki in China. GWM is rumoured to launch a new off-roader through its Tank sub-brand. It is called the Tank 100. In today’s article, we will see the Maruti Jimny copycat that could come to India.
Design
GWM has revealed the Tank 100 in both three-door and five-door versions. The front of the car takes a lot of styling cues from the Ford Bronco. It gets a circular headlamp with a DRL strip in the middle. The side and rear profile are identical to the Jimny. It gets the same boxy silhouette and glass panels. At the rear, it gets rectangle-shaped taillamps and a flat tailgate with a spare wheel mounted on it. The rear of the Tank 100 gets a muscular blacked-out bumper very similar to the Jimny. Even the alloy wheels on the Tank 100 are very similar to the ones on the Jimny.
Interior and features
Tank has not yet revealed the interior of the Tank 100 but it is expected to get interiors similar to its bigger sibling, the Tank 300. A big infotainment system, circular AC vents, fully digital instrument cluster and connected car tech could thus be some of the features. Specifications
The Tank 100 is also expected to share its specification with the Tank 300. It is expected to get the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 227bhp. The Tank 100 will come equipped with a 4WD system giving it good off-road capabilities.
Can it come to India?
Great Wall Motors is still reportedly in talks with the government to enter the Indian market but there is no official launch timeline in place for now. If GWM does enter the market, it should launch the Tank 100 to take on the Maruti Jimny. If GWM can undercut Maruti, it can surely find a lot of new customers.
