The premium off-roader SUV segment is non-existent in the Indian market. It only consists of the Jeep Wrangler, which is quite an expensive option. Great Wall Motors (GWM) can change this if they enter the Indian market and launch the Tank 300. It can help establish the GWM brand in India. The Tank 300 can also compete with the Jeep Wrangler offering more options. In today’s article, we will see Rs 20 lakh Jeep Wrangler competition.

Dimensions

Dimensions-wise, the Tank 300 is almost identical to its main rival, the Jeep Wrangler. The Tank 300 is 4760mm in length, 1930mm in width and 1927mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2750mm and has a ground clearance of 224mm.

Design

The Tank 300 gets an overhaul silhouette very similar to the Jeep Wrangler. At the front, it seems to be inspired by the Ford Bronco with circular headlamps divided by LED DRLs. The Wrangler competition also gets a big grille with a big tank logo in the middle. The side profile gets big wheel arches, but other than this it is kept clean. The rear houses the spare wheel with squared-off-tail lamps. GWM has given a lot of attention to the interiors of Tank 300 by providing premium fit and finish.

Specifications

The Tank 300 comes with a body-on-frame chassis for better off-roading. Globally the Tank 300 comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 227bhp of power mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Tank 300 can go from 0-100 in 10 seconds and has a maximum speed of 170km/hr.

Wrangler competition – Features

The Tank 300 comes with a lot of comfort features to provide that premium off-roader experience. It comes with a Harman sound system, two 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrument clusters, connected cat tech and chassis perspective. GWM has also given it ADAS functionality to increase its safety. This makes the Wrangler competition SUV a good place to be in.

Launch and pricing

GWM has still not officially entered the Indian market. So it is hard to speculate if it will launch the Tank 300. GWM can take inspiration from the Mahindra Thar and launch the Tank 300 to take on the Jeep Wrangler. In Australia, this Wrangler competition is priced at 35k Australian dollars. If we convert this, it comes to around 19 lakh Indian rupees. At this price range, the tank 300 can find a lot of buyers in the Indian market. It will have to be localized.
