Is this Tata’s answer to the Mahindra Thar?
The Mahindra Thar has been the flag bearer in the lifestyle SUV segment. It has been pulling in great sales numbers for Mahindra. Seeing its success, other manufacturers are also eyeing this segment. Tata’s answer
One Tata car that can compete with the Mahindra Thar is the Sierra. The Sierra is an icon in itself. Sierra was a three-door SUV with a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired to a manual gearbox and 4×4 capabilities. Tata had to discontinue the car in 2005 to make way for newer models. But the car continues to remain an icon and is still loved by enthusiasts. Now, Tata is expected to be working on the new generation of the Sierra. Tata Thar competition – Design
The Sierra EV concept displayed by Tata had a lot of futuristic elements. Tata would look to retain as many modern design elements as possible, but it will also try to retain the original feel of the Sierra. The car will be based on the “IMPACT 3.0” design language. So, it will get eyebrow DRLs like other Tata SUVs. We expect Tata to bring two versions, a three-door and a five-door.
Specifications
The new Sierra EV will be based on the Sigma platform. This Sigma platform is Tata’s new all-electric platform for ground-up EVs. Coming to the specifications, it is expected to get a better powerful motor with a bigger battery pack.

The Sierra EV comes loaded with comfort features. Some of the highlight features include connected car technology, a shift-on-fly 4×4 system, hill descent control, dual-zone climate control, a premium sound system and a big infotainment system.
Pricing and launch
There is no official confirmation from Tata regarding the Sierra EV. But there have been some strong rumours that Tata is working on the Sierra. Considering the premium features and advanced technology, we expect Tata to price the Sierra EV on the expensive side. But Tata may price the ICE Sierra competitively to take on the Thar.
