The Innova needs no introduction in the MUV segment. It is a capable MUV that has evolved a lot from a people-mover to a premium offering. It continues to pull in decent sales numbers for Toyota. But it is facing tough competition from newer cars like the Kia Carens, Mahindra XUV700 etc. So Toyota is working on a new-generation Innova. Earlier this month, it was spotted testing in Thailand. And now we have obtained new spy shots of it testing in India. In today’s article, we will see the spotted new-generation Innova.

What was spotted?

A heavily camouflaged car was spotted in Mysore Karnataka by our reader Bharadwaj Bp. It seems to be the Innova from the overall silhouette. Not much is revealed by the spy shots, but we can see a slightly different tail lamp design. Also, the car looks more rounded off than the current model. At the front, though not quite clear, there is a different headlamp design. We can also spot the new alloy wheel design.

What else can we expect?

new-generation Innova

The new-generation Innova is expected to borrow a lot of design elements from the Avanza sold in Thailand and Indonesia. There are rumours that the new Innova will be based on the TNGA platform, making it a front-wheel-drive car. But still, these are rumours Toyota may continue with the RWD IVM platform. The new Innova is also expected to come with a lot of new features.

Toyota will most likely retain the same engine options on the new Innova. So we can get the same 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.4-litre diesel engine. But Toyota will give them some sort of electrification like a mild hybrid or strong hybrid to meet the stricter emission norms.
