Toyota India held an inauguration event for its Toyota Mirai pilot project here. The Mirai is Toyota’s hydrogen-fuel vehicle. As mentioned above, Nitin Gadkari has been quite vocal regarding biofuel cars in India. So Nitin Gadkari personally went to inaugurate the Mirai project. He also test drove the Mirai. Nitin Gadkari also posted an Instagram video of all the benefits of fuel cell vehicles and how the Mirai pilot project will help in this direction.

The Toyota Mirai is a mid-size hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). It is one of the first FCEVs to be mass-produced. As of December 2021, global sales totalled 17,940 units. The Mirai is currently in its second-generation which was launched in 2020. In September 2021, the second-generation Mirai achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

Toyota has been investing in a lot of alternative fuel options. It has also been partnering with other Japanese manufacturers to explore the viability of alternative fuels. According to Toyota, converting internal combustion engines to such green fuels would be better in the long run.
