Mahindra needs this to compete with the Tata EV plan
The EV space is slowly catching up in India. A lot of global manufacturers like Tesla are eyeing the Indian market to cash on the potential. But what’s great to see is that Indian manufacturers are also showing great potential in the EV space. Tata Motors has taken a big lead by launching the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Mahindra has also displayed its electric capabilities at various auto shows. Mahindra has been testing the eXUV300 (expected to be christened ‘XUV400’) to take on the Nexon EV. It would need to bring a better product to take on the well established Nexon EV. In today’s article, we will see features Mahindra needs to take on the Tata EV plan.
Better range
Currently, the Nexon comes with a 30.2kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 312km. It gives a real-world range of around 210km to 250km depending upon the driving conditions. Tata is reportedly working on a bigger battery pack for the Nexon EV, touted to be the ‘Nexon EV Long Range’. To counter this, Mahindra will have to give the eXUV300 a bigger battery that can give it more range than the Nexon EV.
Mahindra EV plan – Faster charging
The Nexon EV can go from 0% to 80% charge in less than 60 minutes under fast charging. It can take 8.5hrs to charge on a regular 15A plug point. Mahindra can improve the charging times on its eXUV300 to attract new customers. Improving the charging time from a regular plug point will surely be a USP for Mahindra.
More comfort features
The Nexon EV comes loaded with features. It comes with features like an electric sunroof, a 7.0-inch infotainment system by Harman, an eight-speaker Harman sound system, etc. To counter this, Mahindra will have to give the eXUV300 a lot of comfort features. It will need a bigger infotainment system with a good sound setup, a digital instrument cluster, an electric sunroof, etc. Mahindra should also work on giving it a modern interior layout that will surely attract buyers.
