Cars sales have skyrocketed in India in the last few years. With so many cars on roads also comes the risk of accidents. Traditionally, car safety has been ignored in India for fuel-efficiency. But, Tata Motors has brought a change in mindset by bringing in safer cars at a competitive price. Tata Motors riding high high on its safe cars regularly makes fun of its competitors for poor safety of their cars. Tata Motors remains active on social media and posts sarcastic tweets on special occasions like Halloween or when a Maruti car performs poorly at GNCAP. It seems that Maruti has had enough of this trolling and is now working on improving safety of its cars. In today’s article, we will take a look at Tata Motors vs Maruti Suzuki in terms of safety.

Why does Tata troll Maruti?

Tata vs Maruti safety

As mentioned above, Tata has cracked the safety code in the Indian market. Its entry-level model Tiago comes with a four-star rating (GNCAP), while other models like Altroz and Nexon come with a five-star rating (GNCAP). In comparison, Maruti cars have faired quite poorly at GNCAP, with some even getting zero stars despite of offering airbags. Considering these points, Tata does not miss out on a chance to take digs at Maruti regarding safety.

How will Maruti improve safety?

According to recent reports, Maruti is focusing on safety in all its upcoming cars. It is reportedly working on getting a five-star crash rating on its new SUV that is being made in collaboration with Toyota. This will be a big step-up from Maruti in terms of safety. It is also being reported that the upcoming Baleno facelift will come with a thicker grade of steel on the outer body panels.

Baleno launch timeline

Tata vs Maruti safety

Maruti has already started the production of the Baleno facelift. We thus expect the new Baleno to be launched in February. Maruti is expected to ask for a premium of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for the new Baleno, depending on the variants.

  • India’s safest car- Xuv300
    India’s techiest car – Xuv700

Tata is just ‘safe’ full stop. Since tata stands nowhere…..it chose marketing strategy of attacking no. 1 on social media….the ppl who got fooled fell for their featureless junk.

With launch of new feature loaded n safe Baleno…….Nexon will die n so will tata.

Tata is good at one thing – “worst service”

  • It is debatable whether Tata started the trend towards safer cars among domestic majors.
If I remember the XUV 300 was the first one to get a 5 star safety rating at the G-NCAP tests, followed by the body-on-frame THAR BS6, which got 4-stars . This was the first domestic B-O-F SUV in India to get a decent (4 stars) NCAP safety rating.

I expect the new Scorpio too will acquit itself respectably (when it is launched later this year) in the safety stakes.
