MG Astor – What’s the status? Buy or wait in 2022?
MG Motors has done well till now in India. It’s latest offering, the Astor has garnered a decent response from the customers. But the Astor competes in the C-segment, one of the most fiercely contested segments in the market. So should you consider Astor over its competition? MG Astor 2022 Design
The Astor is based on the ZS EV and shares a lot of similarities with the ZS EV. But MG has tried to give Astor a separate identity with a new grille and headlamp design. The rear also gets fake exhaust, new bumpers and newly designed LED tail lights. It also gets newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels. The cabin also gets a very premium appeal thanks to multiple soft-touch materials.
Specifications
The Astor is 4323mm in length, 1809mm in width and 1650mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2585mm and has a ground clearance of 190mm. Coming to the engine, it comes with two petrol engine options. The first is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine capable of producing 108bhp & 144Nm of torque while the second is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit capable of producing 138bhp & 220Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre unit comes with both manual & automatic options, while the 1.3-litre turbo comes with only an automatic option.

The Astor comes loaded with features to take on competition cars. One of its biggest highlight is its ADAS Level 2 functionality. It also comes with a personal assistant on the dashboard, another segment first. Other features on the Astor include a fully-digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, wireless charging and a 10.1-inch infotainment system. The car comes with safety features like multiple airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and hill start assist.
Pricing and rivals
The pricing of the Astor starts from Rs 11.67 lakhs and goes to Rs 21.01 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). It rivals cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
So should you buy or wait?
The Astor is a really strong product from MG. You should definitely buy it if features and comfort are your main priorities. Also, it comes with ADAS functionality, providing that extra layer of safety.
