The pickup truck segment is quite a niche segment in India. This segment currently only consists of the Isuzu D-Max. But this is soon going to change with the launch of the Toyota Hilux. Both the pickups are quite big when compared to other cars in India. The Isuzu D-Max is 5295mm in length, 1860mm in width and 1840mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 3095mm and has a ground clearance of 225mm. The Toyota Hilux is 5325mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1865mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 3085 and has a ground clearance of 2079mm. From the dimensions, it is clear that the Hilux is bigger than the D-Max V-Cross.

The Isuzu D-Max only comes with a diesel engine option. It is powered by a 1.9-litre diesel engine capable of producing 160bhp and 360Nm of torque. It comes mated to a manual and an automatic gearbox. The D-Max comes with 4×2 and 4×4 drive options.

Toyota has not yet confirmed the engine options for the Hilux. But it is expected to come with a Fortuner 2.8-litre diesel engine or the 2.4-litre diesel on the Innova. The 2.8-litre engine is capable of 201bhp and 400Nm (manual)/500Nm(automatic) of torque. While the 2.4-litre diesel engine is capable of 148bhp and 360Nm of torque. Toyota is expected to give it both manual and automatic gearbox options. It is expected to also offer 4×2 and 4×4 drive options.

The pricing of the Isuzu D-Max starts from Rs 20.62 lakh and goes to Rs 29.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The pricing of the Hilux is still a mystery, but Toyota is expected to charge a premium on it. It is expected to start from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
