The pickup truck market is slowly, but surely picking up pace in India. Manufacturers have also sensed this change and have lined up some pickup trucks to launch in India. Toyota Hilux vs Ford Ranger – Specs compared

We are expecting Ford to surprise the Indian car market by introducing the Ranger pickup truck here. The Ranger is expected to come via the CBU route in limited numbers. This way, Ford can also assess the popularity of this pickup. The Ranger is based on Endeavour’s platform. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and a 4X4  drivetrain.

Toyota Hilux

Toyota is looking to compete with the upcoming Ranger with its Hilux pickup truck.  The Hilux is based on Fortuner, which is one of the best selling full-size SUVs in India. The Hilux can capitalize on the popularity of the Fortuner. This pickup truck will be powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine along with a 2.8-litre diesel engine. It will also come with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options. 

MG Extender 

MG might look to launch their Extender pickup truck in India. This pickup truck is available in Thailand. The Extender is based on the same platform as the Gloster. The 2021 MG Extender comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. The truck also gets a four-wheel-drive system with a low range. MG is expected to load Extender with multiple segment-first features.

GWM Ute

Currently, Great Wall Motors is yet to make a formal entry into the Indian Market. The success of MG has led them to think about entering India. One of their products for the country could be the GWM Ute to show its rugged nature to the Indian consumer base. The Ute will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. It will also come with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options.

Mahindra Scorpio Pickup

The Scorpio is one of the highest-selling SUVs in India. But not many know that Mahindra sells a pickup version of the Scorpio in South Africa. Seeing the pickup market in India picking up pace, Mahindra might launch this in India as well. It can greatly benefit from the popularity of Scorpio. The Scorpio pickup is powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk turbo-diesel engine. It gets the 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain options.

    The half trucks or lifestyle pickups are making an advent Into the Indian auto market.
    The cross section of society is looking forward eagerly.
    But as the auto industry is venturing to Introduce electric vehicles in the coming 3 years.
    One fails to understand why, then, the auto industry is not introducing the EVs in this segment.
    The least, it could have done is bring in the hybrids.
