Electric vehicles are seeing to boom in the country and across the globe. Charging infrastructure is being developed at a rapid pace to facilitate growth. Government is also consistently encouraging manufacturers and customers by giving subsidies and tax benefits. Kia is also looking to enter this space to continue its momentum in India. We expect Kia to bring its e-Niro to India. The Kia Niro is a sibling to the Hyundai Kona. In today’s article, we will take a look at the Kia EV for the Indian market.

Design

The Kia e-Niro shares a lot of design elements with the Hyundai Kona. Kia had also displayed this car at the Auto Expo in 2020. The concept car had big projector LEDs, a covered front grille and LED DRLs on the fog lamps. Kia has placed the charging port on the front grille of the car. Other exterior highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna and a rear spoiler.

The Kia e-Niro comes with a modern dashboard layout with an integrated infotainment system in the middle. It comes with rectangular AC vents with blue highlights. Below it, we have dials and switches for AC controls and hazard lights. It comes with a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel.

Battery and performance

Globally, the e-Niro comes with two electric motor/battery options. The first combination is a 39.2kWh battery with a 136bhp electric motor, as seen on the Kona. The other combination is a 64kWh battery and a 240bhp electric motor. Fast charging option is also present on the e-Niro. Kia claims that the battery can be charged to 80% in 54 minutes.

There is no official confirmation from Kia regarding the e-Niro however the brand has confirmed that it will soon be launching EVs in India. So we can expect the e-Niro launch sometime in 2022 or 2023. The pricing of the Niro is expected to start from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
