Feature loaded Fortuner competition SUV coming soon
The seven-seater market has been very active in the past few months. We have seen launches from several manufacturers in this space. Jeep is also looking to bring its seven-seater to India. Jeep has already launched this 7-seater Compass outside India. In India, this car is expected to be called the Meridian. In today’s article, we will see another feature-loaded premium SUV.
Premium SUV Design
Though the 7-seater is based on the Compass, it gets its own identity and road presence. The front of the car gets a traditional Jeep grille with angular LED headlamps. The side profile looks quite big due to the third row. At the rear, it gets LED tail-lights like seen on the Grand Wagoneer. In the interiors, it gets a layout similar to the facelifted Compass.
Specifications
The Meridian will most likely get the same engine options as the Compass. It will get a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. The second engine will be a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of producing 167bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both the engines will be offered in manual and automatic gearbox options. Jeep will also offer a 4-wheel-drive option on the higher variants. We expect Jeep to tune the engine for this car differently and it could overall make more power.
Premium SUV Features
Jeep will load the Meridian with comfort features to lure customers. It will get features like a 10.1-inch infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, alpine sound system, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate and more. Globally, Jeep also offers an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) on the Meridian. We hope Jeep offers this on the Indian version.
Expected launch and pricing
Jeep has been rigorously testing the Meridian in various parts of the country. So we can expect Jeep to launch the Meridian somewhere in 2022. The pricing of the Meridian is expected to start from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
