In India, the compact SUV segment is quite popular. This segment is popular as compact SUVs offer SUV-like feel and that too in a compact package. Most brands have already launched their compact SUVs in the market. Another brand is looking to enter this segment now. We are talking about Jeep here. It is speculated to be called Junior and will compete with cars like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and other such cars. In today’s article, we will discuss this Rs 10 lakh Jeep SUV. 

Dimensions and design

As it will be a C-segment SUV, it will be made to fall under sub-four-metre to save taxes. Other dimensions are also expected to be similar to the competition. Design-wise, it is expected to carry some of the design elements from the Compass. It will get Jeep’s traditional grille with sleeker looking headlamps. The overall design will be quite bold and sharp which will give the Jeep a completely bold presence.

The Junior will be based upon Citreon’s CMP modular platform, which also underpins the C3. Citroen has developed this platform, especially for the Indian market. This can also help Jeep to create a better product. Coming to the engine specifications, it will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine also powers the C3. Other than this, it is expected to come with 17-inch alloy wheels. 

Expected features

Jeep will have to load the Junior to compete with other feature loaded cars in this segment. It will get features like wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, electric sunroof, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and atleast a basic version of UConnect 5 system.

Jeep as a brand is known for its 4×4 capabilities. So Jeep has developed a new 4X4 system, known as 4Xe. In this system, the front axle is engine driven and the other has a battery pack. This tech allows 4×4 capabilities even on a two-wheel drive car. This will make the Junior first in this segment to offer proper off-road capabilities. 

Pricing and launch

The Junior is under development and there is no proper timeline regarding its launch. It is however expected to be unveiled next year and will go on sale in Europe before making its way to India. The pricing of the Junior is expected to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
