Toyota has not launched a new product for quite some time now. Since it collaborated with Maruti, it has been launching only rebadged products. But Toyota seems to have finally woken up from this slumber. It is working on a sleeve of products with Maruti. It is also testing a sleeve of its global products in India. What was spied on?
A car with heavy camouflage was spotted in Hyderabad. It was spotted by one of our readers Venkat Sai. The car is heavily camouflaged at the rear, but it does have a tail lamp design like the Corolla Cross. Also, the overall proportions of this car look similar to the Corolla Cross.
What could be Toyota’s plan with the Corolla Cross?
Toyota has never hinted about the Cross in the past. So these recent sightings have been quite unexpected. Dimensions wise, the globally sold Corolla Cross is 4460mm. Toyota might place it in the C-segment, making it the biggest car in the segment, giving it a major advantage. Toyota can also place it in the mid-size SUV segment, but it will be dwarfed by other mid-size SUVs like the Tata Harrier and MG Hector. So the best option will be to put it in the C-segment.
Toyota’s India plan
As mentioned above, Toyota is bringing a lot of its global cars to India. It is rumored to launch the Hilux pickup truck in the January of 2022. Also, Toyota is working with Maruti on several cars. It might also bring cars like the Raize and RAV4 in the future. Toyota is also working on flex-fuel vehicles that can be in demand in India in the future.
