Tata Motors is expanding their portfolio with segment shattering offerings. All their cars are either outperforming or matching their competition. The Altorz is one such car that is matching its competition and has the potential to become a segment leader. A CNG option or a proper automatic gearbox can really help the Altroz.  We have obtained a video of a pair Altroz’ testing near Pune. Let’s find out more.

What was SPOTTED?

A convoy of heavily camouflaged cars was spotted in Pune. It is easy to figure out this is the Altroz from the overall silhouette. The cars were parked on the side of the road. So the interior of the car was also captured. While the interiors are not covered, Tata has covered the gearbox lever hinting towards a gearbox change.

What could it be?

It can’t be the Altroz EV as it contains the traditional gear lever, while the Altroz EV, like other Tata EVs, will come with a circular gear knob. So it could be either the DCT or CNG variant. We don’t think it will be the CNG as the Altroz is Tata’s premium hatchback. CNG is considered a cheap alternative that will not suit the premium image of the Altroz. For the same reason, no other car in this premium hatchback segment like the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. So we are only left with the proper automatic gearbox option. Tata was working on a DCT gearbox for Altroz earlier this year and is going to get the car later

What will the spied Tata Altroz DCT get/

Tata will only offer this DCT gearbox on the 1.2-litre i-Turbo engine. Currently, the Altroz only comes with a manual gearbox option. We don’t expect any major exterior changes. Tata might give it a DCT badge on the side profile. In the interiors, it could get some extra features to attract customers. It could be Rs 1-lakh more over the i-Turbo manual, which starts from Rs 9.49 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
