Maruti is known for its affordable car lineup. Their entry-level cars are the major contributors to their sales figures. The Celerio recently got its new-generation update and now comes with a more polished design as well as new features. Alto will be the next entry-level car to get a generation update. We have already seen test mules of the Alto undergoing testing. The Alto is popular among first-time buyers due to its high value for money proposition. In today’s article, we will see Maruti’s car for first-time buyers.

Exterior design

The new-generation will likely come with a more curvy design similar to the new Celerio. It will sport a completely new front end with a new grille. LED DRLs and headlamps are also expected in the new-generation car. The rear will also be redesigned with a new tail lamp arrangement and LED taillamps. The top-spec variant might get alloy wheels as well.

Interior design

Maruti car

Being an entry-level car, we can’t expect drastic changes in the interiors but still, the current interiors feel quite basic. Maruti will look to give it some modern touches in the new-generation. A new multi-function steering wheel, new seating & upholstery and new AC vents design are some of the expected changes.

Specifications

The new-generation Alto will be based on the Heartect platform, like the Celerio and S-Presso. Hopefully, the new platform improves the safety of the Alto. Engine-wise, it is expected to retain the 800cc petrol engine. Maruti might give it a 1.0-litre engine seen on the S-Presso as well.

Features

Features have become an important point in the Indian market. Due to its entry-level pricing, Alto misses out on a lot of features. We expect Maruti to load the new-generation Alto with features. Features like all four power windows, automatic AC, rear wipers and speed alert systems are expected.

Launch and pricing

Car for first time buyers

The launch of the Alto has been delayed due to the pandemic coupled with microchip shortage. We had recently spotted the Alto in testing, hinting towards a launch in 2022. The pricing of the Alto starts from Rs 3.73 lakh and goes to Rs 5.45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We can expect an increase of 30-40k with the new-generation car.
