Kia Ertiga competition spotted stranded during testing!
Kia has been enjoying good sales in the Indian market. Both their products, Sonet and Seltos have been selling quite well. But in the Indian market, brands need to keep constantly updating their products in order to survive. Kia knows this and is working on an affordable MPV. This affordable MPV will be based on the Sonet and will compete with the likes of Maruti Ertiga. We have received new spy shots of this Kia Ertiga competition. In today’s article, we will take a look at the Sonet-based 7-seater spy shots and the information that we can make out from them.
What was spotted?
A heavily camouflaged car was spotted in Hyderabad. The car was heavily camouflaged in the rear quarter as well, hinting at it being a 7-seater car. The car had some issues as it was parked by the roadside with the driver inspecting the car. We can see that the wheel well of the car has come out. The driver can be seen checking the damage caused to the test mule. Seeing a test mule stranded is not a very common sight but that is why cars undergo testing. Coming to the design, although the test mule is majorly covered, the design cues hint of it being an Ertiga competition from Kia. The biggest hint is the position of the DRL. The ORVMs are also similar to the regular Sonet. The bonnet also shares similar lines from the regular Sonet. Other than this, the spotted car includes slopping roof rails, LED DRLs with integrated turn indicators, beige seat covers and 16-inch alloy wheels. The door also follows a much sharper line. This might be done to enhance the headroom in the cabin.
What else can we expect?
Kia already has the Sonet 7-seater in Indonesia. So we can expect this in India too. It will carry forward features and interiors from the regular Sonet. This Sonet-based 7-seater will get features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless connectivity, wireless charging, semi-digital instrument cluster, an electric sunroof and Bose sound system. Kia might give it some additional features like a 360-degree camera and a heads up display in order to enhance the premium appeal.

The car is based on Kia’s K2 platform that also underpins other Kia and Hyundai cars. Dimension wise the car will be similar to the Ertiga. It will carry forward the same engine options as the regular Sonet. It will get three engine options, 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine will only come with a manual transmission while the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will come with manual and automatic gearbox options.
Kia Sonet 7-seater pricing & launch
We expect the car to be priced from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (on-road). With the car being spotted recurringly, we expect it to launch somewhere around next year.
