Tata Safari spied – Major news incoming?
The SUV lineup of Tata Motors has been enjoying good sales. All its SUVs are raking in good numbers. Riding on this success, Tata even brought back the iconic Safari nameplate. Currently, Safari is a great overall package, however Tata is looking to make it even better. We recently spotted a test mule of the Safari with camouflage. We think this could be the petrol variant of the Safari. In today’s article, we will see these Tata Safari petrol spy shots and discuss what the car could sport.
What was spotted?
A Tata Safari with full camouflage was spotted in Thane, Maharashtra recently. The car is covered with heavy camouflage, so we can’t exactly make out what is being tested. However, we believe that the brand is testing the petrol variant of the Safari. Tata is not expected to be working on an all-wheel-drive system for the Safari currently. Moreover, with the possibility of a facelift being tested very slim, the guess majorly boils down to a petrol variant itself.
What could the petrol variant offer?
Currently, Tata has no petrol engine powerful enough for cars like the Safari. Tata is reportedly working on an in-house 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine which they had showcased during the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. We think Tata is testing this engine in this spotted Safari. This engine is expected to produce 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. A manual gearbox will be made available with the car. We also expect the Safari petrol to come with a DCT gearbox.
Why is it needed?
The petrol Safari will help lower the price of the Safari. It will make the starting price of the Safari cheaper, helping it to take on competition cars like the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. Also, it will be useful for people who have less usage and don’t require a diesel engine. A lot of people are avoiding diesel engines due to upcoming stringent emission norms as well. A petrol variant of the Safari will be suitable for such customers.
