Could this Volkswagen Rs 16 lakh car come after Taigun?
Volkswagen is taking the Indian market seriously in its ‘India 2.0’ project. The brand is expected to launch the Taigun soon. Later on, it has a sleeve of products to launch in India including the new Tiguan. The brand has also been actively bringing out products abroad. Recently, the brand revealed Taigo in the European markets. The Volkswagen Taigo is a sporty SUV coupe based on the T-Cross (Taigun for India). In today’s article, we will be looking at the Taigo and discuss whether this Volkswagen Rs 16 lakh car come to India.
Design
The Taigo is 4266mm long, 1757mm wide and 1494mm tall. It is very much comparable to the Skoda Kushaq in terms of dimensions. This SUV coupe follows the traditional Volkswagen design, quite similar to the upcoming Taigun, however with some sportier bits including a subtle spoiler to the back. An extended rear overhang also accentuates the SUV coupe style. Apart from these, the car comes with LED headlamps & tail lamps, roof rails along with few other elements to maintain the premium appeal.
Interiors
The Taigo’s interior is inspired by the T-Cross and the updated Polo (sold abroad). It includes a multi-functioning steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster (Digital Cockpit) and touch-sensitive climate controls. Being a sporty variant, it might come with coloured accents in the cabin if launched in India.
Specifications
Volkswagen Taigo is based on the MQB-AO platform. If it comes to India, the car will use the MQB-AO-IN platform. The SUV coupe is only offered with petrol engine options. It gets a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The 1.0-litre produces either 95bhp when paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or 115bhp when paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The unit is capable of producing 200Nm of torque.
The 1.5-litre unit, on the other hand, produces 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. The five-speed manual gearbox is reserved for the 95bhp configuration. The six-speed manual is available for the 115bhp and 150bhp configurations. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) will also be on offer. Volkswagen Taigo will come with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Volkswagen Rs 16 lakh car features
Volkswagen has loaded the Taigo with features like a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, wireless charging, connected car tech, etc. Apart from these, the car comes with assistance features like semi-autonomous cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and automatic emergency braking up to 50 km/h as standard.
Will it come to India?
Volkswagen has not made anything official yet. But, given Volkswagen’s SUV push in India, it might get launched in India. With that being said, it is too early to make any statement now, however, bringing it to India could help the brand expand its SUV portfolio diversity. We expect the car to sit between the upcoming Taigun and the T-Roc if launched in India. The car could come with a price tag of around Rs 16 lakh.
