Skoda recently launched the Kushaq in India. A capable SUV with great design and modern interiors. Now Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the Taigun in India. The Kushaq and Taigun are both based on Skoda’s MQB-AO-IN platform. Though they are based on the same platform, Skoda and Volkswagen have tried their best to make them stand out as individual products. Let’s see the three differences Taigun will have over the Kushaq in this article on Volkswagen Taigun vs Skoda Kushaq.

What could Volkswagen Taigun share with Skoda Kushaq?

Design

Though the Taigun is a sister model to the Kushaq. The design of the Taigun feels more SUV-like due to its more boxy look. The side profile of both the cars looks similar, the front and rear are very different. With a single-piece headlights, a two-slat chrome grill and a chrome inserts on the lower part of the bumper, up-right hood and squared headlamps, the Taigun exudes better road presence than the Kushaq. The Taigun also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, but the design of the alloys is different from the Kushaq.

  • Since there is no mention of AWD / 4WD in either of the models, it seems obvious that both will remain on the hatch-on-stilts bandwagon.

And with the new XUV700 offering AWD it seems that the VW/Skoda duo continue with their Euro-chauvinism that the Indian car buyer is just not deserving of such tech features, though both offer AWD in other markets.

Of course one must admit the herd mindset of the bulk of Indian buyers – follow the leader (who is going for the pseudo-SUV bandwagon) even if he jumps overt a cliff.

  • Undoubtedly the Taigun! Though I love both, overall road presence and service network of VW seems to have an edge. The Digi cockpit is awesome.
But yes the pricing matters the most now…Hopefully I will will drive one soon!
