Volkswagen has planned some SUVs in the country this year. The brand will launch the new Tiguan soon which will be followed by the brand’s Creta competition, the Taigun. However, it had been a long since we heard anything regarding an update for the Vento. With that being said, we have recently spotted the Volkswagen Virtus being tested on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The car has been spotted with a left-hand drive. In this article, we will discuss the information that can be deciphered from the spy shots of the Volkswagen Virtus that has been spotted. Also, we will briefly look at the Volkswagen Virtus.

What information is revealed from the spy spots?

Volkswagen Virtus spotted

Spy shots clearly reveal that it is the Virtus that is being tested. If earlier speculations are to be believed, the Virtus will be the car that will be rebadged as the new-gen Vento in the country. However, one thing that stands out is the fact that the car being tested is a left-hand drive. Left-hand drive Taiguns have also been spotted earlier indicating that they will mostly be exported from India. There are high chances that Volkswagen might be planning the Virtus for India as well as some foreign countries. On the contrary, the brand might just be using the car for testing. We will explore the Volkswagen Virtus in brief below.

Design

Although Virtus and Vento follows a similar overall body style, the former has its unique elements that give it a fresh, modern look. The car gets new headlamps and sleeker tail lamps, giving it a bold appeal. The Virtus however gets a smooth roofline that resembles the ones on the newer Skoda sedans.

Dimensions

The Virtus is bigger than Vento. It is 4482mm long, 1751mm wide and 1472mm tall. The car gets a wheelbase of 2651mm. For reference, the Vento is 4390mm long, 1699mm wide and 1467mm tall. The Vento gets a wheelbase of 2553mm. With bigger dimensions, Virtus will be able to provide much better legroom, knee room, shoulder room and headroom.

Specifications

The sedan will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform which the brand has specifically built for the country. The upcoming Vento is expected to get the same powertrains that we are expecting with the upcoming Taigun. A 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine are expected to power this sedan as well. The brand is not expected to offer a diesel engine with the car. The 1.0-litre unit will come mated to 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options whereas the 1.5-litre engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG gearbox.

New Vento has to come loaded with modern features since most competition already comes with modern ones. A floating touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, wireless charging, a fully digital instrument cluster (Digital Cockpit) and an electric sunroof are some of the expected features.

Pricing & launch

We expect the Vento to start somewhere around Rs 12 Lakh (on-road). However, we do not have any official information regarding the launch. With that being said, we expect Volkswagen to bring this sedan mostly by the end of the year.
