The Maruti Swift has been ruling the hatchback segment in the country for many years now. It is hands down the most successful hatchback in the country. Maruti launched a facelift for the Swift this year, however, the brand has already started working on the new-gen Swift. With the ever-changing trends, Maruti is expected to bring some major updates for the car which will help it retain the top spot. This article will deal with 5 new things that we believe the upcoming new-gen Maruti Swift could get.

Design

Swift

We expect Maruti to bring a fresh exterior design for the car with the upcoming generation change. New headlamps & tail lamps, new bumpers, new alloy wheels and a new front grille could be some of the major changes. On the inside, the car will mostly get a new dashboard layout to give the customers a fresh feel. Also, we expect Maruti to bring an update for the infotainment system, something that has been used commonly in most Maruti products. The user interface is also expected to receive a major change to align with Swift’s sporty character.

Platform & Dimensions

2019 Maruti Wagon R platform

The upcoming new-gen Swift will continue to be based on the Heartect platform. With that being said, we expect Maruti to tweak the dimensions of the car. The new Swift is expected to be longer, wider and taller than what it currently is. With the enhanced dimensions the car will surely give out a unique appeal.

Engine options

Pre-BS6 era, VDi was the most appreciated variant of the Swift. So, Maruti is mostly expected to bring back the diesel engine with the Swift. Other than this, Maruti might also bring the Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine for the Swift, something that the brand has been working on to bring back for Baleno as well. With that being said, the major addition for the Swift could be a hybrid engine. The brand already sells Swift with a hybrid engine in Japan, so bringing one for India would not be a big deal. We have done a separate story on Swift hybrid. You can check it out by clicking the link below.

Features

Kiger Interior Wireless Charging

Although Maruti has loaded the Swift with many modern features, however, there are some areas where the Swift can improve. We expect Maruti to bring the upcoming new-gen Swift with wireless charging and as mentioned above, a new touchscreen infotainment system. Other than this, the Swift might also be brought with 6 airbags.

Pricing

The current-gen Swift starts at Rs 6.69 Lakh and goes up to Rs 9.74 Lakh (on-road Mumbai). We expect Maruti to price the new-gen Swift somewhere around Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 higher than what it currently sells for.
