Maruti Suzuki products have been leading almost all segments they have a presence in by great margins. The products give a really tough fight to the competition, irrespective of them being more feature-loaded. Why Honda City outsells Maruti Ciaz?

Dimensions

Maruti Ertiga 2018 Front motion

The Ertiga is 4395mm long, 1735mm wide and 1690mm tall. The Dzire on the other hand is 3995mm long, 1735mm wide and 1515mm tall. The Ertiga is longer and taller than the Dzire would be able to offer better seating comfort on the inside due to enhanced legroom, knee room and headroom. In standard settings, the Dzire has a better boot space with 378 litres of capacity and Ertiga with a boot space of just 209 litres. However, if only 5 people use the Ertiga and the 3rd-row is folded, the boot space increases to 550 litres, which is a massive boost over the Dzire.

Interior space & feel

As already mentioned above, the Maruti Ertiga being a 7-seater MPV offers more space when compared to the Maruti Dzire, which is a 5-seater sedan. The Ertiga can thus accommodate more people if needed and they can sit comfortably in the car without having to worry about space.  Also, both the cars get light tone interiors which make both cars equally upmarket from the inside.

Maruti Ertiga 2018 rear motion

Maruti Dzire gets features like cruise control, keyless entry, ESP with hill hold, idle start-stop function, LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, multi-function steering wheel, dual-tone alloy wheels and SmartPlay infotainment system. The Ertiga on the other hand gets all those features features and more like 3rd-row recliner seats, LED tail lamps and 2nd-row roofline-mounted AC vents. However, for features like cruise control, auto headlamps and a few others, you would have to upgrade to the Maruti XL6.

Dzire Petrol Engine

The MPV comes powered by a 1.5-litre K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. The Ertiga also comes with Maruti’s Smart Hybrid technology which helps in improving performance and fuel efficiency. The Dzire on the other hand gets a 1.2-litre DualJet engine that makes 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. The Smart Hybrid technology takes a miss on the Dzire. Also, the Ertiga comes mated to a traditional automatic instead of Dzire’s AMT unit.

Which one should you buy?

If your budget is limited to Rs 12 Lakhs and you just wish to go for a car that offers more space, convenience, comfort and road presence, without caring about features like cruise control & auto headlamps you should go for the Ertiga. If your budget is limited to around Rs 10 lakhs and you need a car that is loaded with almost all features, you should go for the Dzire. However, if you can push your budget and are looking for a car that comes loaded with almost all features that the Ertiga has to offer including some extra features like automatic headlamps and cruise control – you should look at the Maruti XL6. Also, an XL6 would be much suited for people who wish to be chauffeur-driven due to the availability of captain seats.
