The electric vehicle market in India is slowly on the rise. While 2020 was not the best year in terms of automobile development and launches, we expect 2021 to be hugely different. The entry of Tesla in India is also a great milestone in the electric vehicle department of India. Government incentives and tax benefits along with increasing fuel prices are expected to push people towards electric mobility. Mahindra, being a Made in India brand has promised some major EV launches in our country in 2021. Find out below about the eXUV300 expectations in India for 2021.

Concept Car

Mahindra has already showcased the concept of the eXUV300 during the Auto Expo in February 2020.  The company did not reveal any specifications about the car then. Mahindra also previously quoted that the production variant of the Mahindra electric XUV300 will be capable of a driving range of around 370kms.

The concept car was quite similar looking to the ICE XUV300. However, the front grille and bumper were highly modified to add a futuristic look.  Sharp headlights with LED DRLs were also a welcome addition. The concept car also featured funky looking wheels, which will not be included in the production variant. The overall dimensions of the car are expected to be the same. The pearl white colour of the concept car along with black highlights really made the car stand out.  The rear look of the car was also quite similar to the ongoing fuel-powered car.

The Mahindra eKUV100 will be one of the first electric cars launched by Mahindra in the Indian market. We expect the car to launch before the end of Q2 2021. Price and Performance

eXUV300 expectations in India for 2021

Price is a major car buying factor in India. You can make the best car in the world, but if you price it too high, you cannot sell large numbers in India. Being an EV, companies have to keep the price as low as possible to attract customers from ICE-powered machines. Mahindra realizing this may launch two variants of the car to compete in the whole electric vehicle segment in India.

The first variant is expected to come with a 350V powertrain with an affordable battery pack with a range of around 200kms. This will be the cheaper variant and directly compete against Tata Nexon EV, which is the cheapest EV SUV in our country right now.

The pricier variant on the other hand is expected to come with a 380V powertrain and beefier battery pack with the announced range of around 370kms. Mahindra will price this variant close to Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV to hit two birds with a single arrow. If the method pays off, budget buyers can opt for the lower-priced variant while enthusiasts can look towards the powerful but pricier variant.
