The mid-size SUV segment has also become quite popular and the high sales of Hyundai Creta is the evidence to this fact. For Hyundai, Creta is the largest selling car in the Indian car market. Other competitors like Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass, MG Hector and Tata Harrier also have a major chunk in the market. As a result, both Toyota and Maruti have an eye upon this segment and Toyota may launch its CHR soon here. Find out below about the Toyota CHR spied in India.

Toyota CHR – New SPY SHOTS, price expectations, launch time-frame

Design and Looks

Toyota CHR 2

As the Toyota CHR will compete Creta and Compass including others, it will be similarly designed with some inspiration from Nissan Kicks. Thus the Toyota CHR will have a touch of crossover added to it. The headlamps look extremely sharp and sleek, as do the dual-tone alloy wheels. The vehicle has a coupe-like rear section, with a prominent roof-mounted spoiler. The taillights are extremely sharp as well, and resemble the one on the current-gen Honda Civic. Toyota CHR rear

In terms of overall styling, the Toyota CHR will be unique and also a head-turner. Toyota will also launch this car upon its TNGA(Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The same platform may also be used in the next-generation Toyota Corolla. Seeing the spy-shots we can either expect Toyota to launch CHR in India or test the TNGA platform for Indian road conditions.  If Toyota brings CHR in India, and is able to give good competition to Creta, Maruti may also launch a rebadged version.

Is Toyota Corolla Cross the perfect SUV in Indian market?

Engine and Performance

The international-spec model comes with a 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine which produces 144bhp and 188Nm of peak power and torque, respectively, and comes paired to an eCVT. Toyota can also provide a 1.8-litre engine with the CHR. For India we expect, Toyota to provide a smaller engine along with electric motor just like Maruti’s smart Hybrid for improved fuel efficiency.

Toyota CHR engine

Toyota in India now only produces a 1.5-litre petrol engine for Yaris and 2.7-litre petrol engine for Innova and 2.4 litre Diesel engine. It also produces 2.8-litre Diesel engine for Fortuner. CHR can come with the 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Yaris along with improvements. Other than that, we expect plenty of premium features to be offered as well, like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with multiple connectivity options. Toyota CHR 1

Toyota might also offer Lane Departure Alert, Collision Avoidance System (with pedestrian warning and emergency braking), Road Sign Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc. We expect Toyota to bring in the C-HR as a CBU import, which will keep its costs high. The prices will probably hover around the Rs. 20-25 lakh mark to rival Compass, T-Roc and Karoq. If priced below, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta including others.
