The Hyundai Santro is an entry-level hatchback from the company that sits below the Grand i10 Nios. The original Santro was one of the most successful cars in the country and is being used by fleet drivers even today. It was the first car to be brought by Hyundai into the market and paved the way for the company in India.

The car was discontinued in 2015 and brought back in 2018 as a completely new model. This car uses the same fundamental and keeps the pricing aggressive while being the entry-level car. The strong point of this car is that it is feature-rich. We look at the top five interesting features that are segment first

AC vents design

The design of the AC vents is also unique and gives a different feel to the car. It does not look like traditional AC vents and gets cross lines between them. It gets sort of triangular lines in the round vents. This makes it easier to move them and also makes it look better. It also gets rear ac vents which is impressive.

Interior highlights

The Santro gets an optional variant with interior highlights. This tries to make the car a bit funky by adding the exterior colour to some of the elements on the inside. The colour is seen around the AC vents, then it is prominent around the dashboard, and also on the power button of the dashboard as well.

The area around the gear lever gets these inserts as well as the entire seat belt.

Hyundai Santro AMT gearbox

This is the first car from Hyundai to get this gearbox. It is an interesting feature because the calibration of the gearbox has been done very well. The ride is not jerky at all and the gearbox is kind of intuitive. It cannot be compared to the traditional automatics but it is one of the best AMTs offered in our market.

Touchscreen infotainment

The car comes with a touchscreen system which is indeed commendable at this price point. Furthermore, it also gets Android Auto, Apple Carplay Mirror Link and voice recognition. These kind of features are optional in much more higher-priced cars than the Santro and this is a surprise move.

Hyundai Santro other features

The car gets a rear-facing camera which again is not seen in many higher-priced cars. It also gets rear sensors that tell you the distance. It also gets power-adjustable wing mirrors, USB port, rear ac vents, steering mounted controls, folding rear seats, ABS with EBD.

Pricing and competition

The Santro competes with the likes of the Maruti WagonR that has been dominating this segment. This car is the most premium of the lot it is also priced at the top end of the budget car segment. This makes it a tough choice as the base variants of the vehicle above this have more features than this car.
