Compact SUVs are the new style statement in India. Internationally these vehicles are called as the crossovers but Indian customers are more tended towards the SUVs, so compact SUVs. Nevertheless, the blog will have a faceoff battle between the two compact SUVs that have a good image among the driving enthusiast. Yes, we are talking about Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. So whats better among the better? well, let’s find it out.

Engine

We are talking about the driver’s cars, so the engine is what we guess is the most essential part of that fun. Tata Nexon comes with two engine options – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine produces around 118 bhp max power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated with a 6-speed manual and optional 6-speed automatic. The torquey 1.5-litre diesel produces around 108 bhp max power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox option is similar to the petrol version.

On the other hand, the Ford EcoSport is always said as the driver’s car. It also comes with two engine options – 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre petrol produces around 121 bhp max power and 149 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated with a 5-speed manual and optional dual-clutch, paddle-shift 6-speed automatic. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces around 99 bhp max power and 215 Nm of peak torque. It only comes with the 5-speed manual. Looking at the power figures and engine options Tata Nexon has the advantage of more torque, however, Ford EcoSport comes with the paddle shifters which segment first

Features

Both of the compact SUVs are feature-loaded and comes with lots of modern techs. Tata Nexon gets comfort and convenience features such as digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control. reverse camera, 12 V power outlets, cruise control, sunroof, etc. The safety equipment includes 2-airbags, reverse parking sensor, ABS with EBD, hill assist, traction control, ESP, etc. Tata Nexon comes with Tata’s smart connectivity feature with a touch screen infotainment and 6+ speakers.

Ford EcoSport gets similar feature list as of Tata Nexon. It comes with automatic climate control, sunroof, reverse camera, 12 V power outlets, cruise control, etc. However, it misses out on a digital instrument cluster. The safety features are also similar to the Tata Nexon but it comes with six-airbags with the top trims. So both these vehicles are safe vehicles and we think that’s the most important aspect for any vehicle. Nevertheless, Ford EcoSport also comes with Ford’s smart connectivity feature with touch screen infotainment. One more feature we would like to point out of these compact SUVs is about the quality. We know, that it’s not any feature but Tata and Ford have done a splendid job with the quality level.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon starts at Rs 6.95 lakhs and goes up to Rs 11.2 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom). Ford EcoSport starts at Rs 8.04 lakhs and goes up to Rs 11.61 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom). Tata Nexon starts at pretty early in terms of pricing so Tata Nexon surely has a benefit to attract a wide range of customers. Both these compact SUVs do offer a good value for money, Tata Nexon has a slight advantage due to its wider service network and a more powerful engine.
