The city remains to be the bread and better of Honda. This will be the fifth generation of this model that will be launched in India. The Honda City 2020 seems to have significantly grown in size and gets a completely new design and lights upfront as well as on the back. Find out more details about the differences, features and expected launch date below.

What is the New Honda City?

The car was launched in November in Thailand and the biggest surprise was the introduction of the RS variant in the car. The RS variant will get a 1.0l turbo petrol engine. Although this variant is not expected to be launched here. The fourth-gen was launched in 2014 in the Indian market and therefore there was a need for the launch of a new model to keep things fresh. The design language has been borrowed from the new Honda Accord and the new Honda Jazz. The 2020 Honda City’s main features include LED headlights, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lights, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay.

It also receives a new twin clock analogue cluster with a multi-information display (MID) that is offered in the international spec.

Dimension Changes

The city gets bigger overhangs in the front as well as back and therefore the overall length, as well as width, has been increased. This will translate into better interior comfort for the passengers. It is 113m longer than before and 53mm wider than before but interesting the wheelbase has reduced by 11mm. All these changes have resulted in the car getting heavier by about 65kg than the outgoing model, but the actual weight of the Indian car could be different.

BS6 Engines

Engine-wise, the city is expected to retain its current offering- the 1.5 petrol and the 1.5 diesel engine mated to a manual or a CVT gearbox. Although these engines could be slightly revised as the new city is expected to be launched with BS6 engines. Car enthusiasts will love if there is an offering of a 1.

0 turbo engine as this is a trend in the Compact SUV market.

Interiors of the 2020 Honda City

On the inside, the Honda City 2020 gets a completely revised dashboard. The touch-sensitive AC controls are replaced by conventional dials that seem to be of high quality. There will be an 8.0-inch infotainment system and alongside there are two vertical AC vents. The instrument cluster has also been revised and now sits in between both the dials. It is to be noted that the city still does not have complete digital dials.

Features

In terms of features, the Thai-spec new City comes with vehicle-stability control and hill-start assist in addition to the features previously offered in the top variant of the outgoing model; although it is not confirmed if these features will make it to the India-spec sedan. The new City will come with the same engine options, and transmission options are unlikely to be changed either. It is expected to be launched in mid-2020 and will rival against the Toyota Yaris and the Maruti Ciaz. Check out our video on the 2020 Honda City.

  • I am eagerly waiting to buy new Honda City automatic in Ahmedabad. I wish it is higher then the previous model. Because, in India, our speed breakers often damage lower part of Honda City. If I don’t get it taller, I may go for Maruti Ciaz
