Hyundai is a renown brand in the country. It has shown its superiority in both affordable and premium segments. So when Hyundai entered the EV segment, many expected it to taste success immediately. Hyundai entered the EV segment with the Kona EV which is a global product. However, the Kona EV failed to attract buyers. So what is Hyundai’s plan with the Kona EV? Globally, the Kona EV received an update in 2020 and Hyundai might bring the updated Kona EV to India this year. In today’s article, we will talk about Hyundai’s premium SUV.

The Kona facelift gets a lot of exterior changes over the current model. So what are these changes? Straightway, we see the new grill with a more sloping bonnet design. Also, headlamps have been reworked. There are not many changes on the side and rear profile as it is just a facelift, however the tail lamps have been reworked.

Hyundai has also updated the interiors in the new Kona EV. What has Hyundai changed? It gets new AC vents design, the rest of the dashboard is more or less similar. The bigger update is the new 10.25-inch infotainment replacing the 8.0-inch unit of the current model. Also, the Kona EV facelift gets a digital instrument cluster similar to the one seen on the Alcazar. Other than that, Hyundai has added some more features to BlueLink connected car technology.

Hyundai has not fiddled much with the specifications. So the new Kona comes with the same motor and battery options. The Kona comes with a 100kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) capable of producing 134bhp & 395Nm of torque. In India, the Kona EV comes with a 39.2kWh battery pack giving it a claimed range of 452km. Globally, the Kona EV also comes with a 64kWh battery pack. Will Hyundai bring this to India? Only time will tell.

Currently, Hyundai is focusing on launching the IONIQ 5 in India. The IONIQ 5 will sit above the Kona EV in Hyundai’s portfolio. So what about the Kona EV? There is no official confirmation from Hyundai, but there are strong rumours that the Kona EV facelift will come to India. We can expect Hyundai to launch the Kona EV by the end of this year or early next year. The Kona EV will directly compete with the Nexon EV Max, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV400.
