The sedan segment has begun to catch up once again it seems. There has been some action in this area, lately, with the launch of the New Hyundai Verna. Now Toyota will be entering the C sedan segment for the very first time, to take on the Honda City. Toyota had unveiled the Yaris at the Auto Expo 2018. The launch of this car will take place in May. The Yaris will be a direct competitor to the Honda City. The city is the king of this segment and face stiff competition from the Yaris. Toyota Yaris vs Honda City Design

The Toyota Yaris is the latest kid on the block and internationally it has received a facelift. The headlamps are pulled back and are projectors. There is a large grille on the bumper for air intake. The side profile is subtle and it will comes with 15-inch wheels. There are LED tail lamps and the rear looks big and like a premium car.

The Honda City on the other hand is a more sporty looking car. It received a facelift recently where a new front grille came in. There are LED headlamps and daytime running lights tooSide profile remains untouched. It has the same side profile just like the previous version, which is very sporty and arrow like. It has 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The tail lamps also stand out with the LED lights. This makes it look much better than before.

Toyota Yaris vs Honda City Interiors

The Yaris sold in India will get black and beige colour interiors. The dashboard is simplistic and not too jazzy. The steering wheel is somewhat similar to the Corolla Altis. In terms of space, it is as good as the City. This is spacious like the Etios but a lot more comfortable. The seating is better, the fabric and the leather used will be higher quality and the ride will be pliant. Toyota Yaris has rear AC vents but on the roof and even rear arm rest too.

The Honda City has a black and beige dash board with a neat centre console. There are is a new touchscreen system, which is larger and offers more now. It gets Mirror Link, multi-view reverse camera, navigation and HDMI input too. The space in both the rows is ideal for tall passengers. There is more than sufficient head room and knee room too. Then there is more than enough shoulder room for three passengers at the back. There is a rear AC vent too.

Toyota Yaris vs Honda City Specifications

The Toyota Yaris will be offered only with a petrol engine. This 1.5-litre engine will be churning about 110bhp of power. It is a new-gen petrol engine, while the Etios had the older gen one. The same block has been modified with multiple changes. This engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There will also be a CVT on offer. A diesel engine will not be offered as of now, as the demand for frugal petrol engines is growing in this segment.

The Honda City comes in both petrol and diesel versions. This is a big plus point for City over the Yaris. Both engines are powerful and frugal. The petrol gets a CVT as well.

The Yaris looks bigger, it is actually shorter in length as compared to the Honda City. The height is also lesser. However, the Yaris is wider than the city, hence, this will translate into more shoulder room for three passengers at the rear. The boot space of the Yaris is also more than the Honda City.

Toyota Yaris vs Honda City Mileage

Expect the Yaris to return about 11-13km/l in the city and close to 16-18km/l depending on your driving habits. The CVT shall be efficient too and will return similar mileage or maybe 5-10% lower. The Honda City returns around 12km/l in the city for petrol and around 16km/l  in the diesel. The CVT returns around 10 km/l.

The Honda City ranges from Rs. 9.6 lakhs to 16.6 lakhs, on-road Delhi. The Toyota Yaris is expect to be priced between Rs. 9 lakhs and 15 lakhs, on -road, Delhi. There is no Diesel version is the Yaris, hence the price walk will not be as a much as the City. Toyota will price the Yaris slightly below the City.

The Toyota Yaris is more feature loaded than the City. It gets electric driver seat adjustment, seven airbags across all variants, and gesture control for the infotainment system.

Both cars are evenly matched. Honda City has more variety as it also comes in diesel. On the other hand the Yaris gets more features and is expected to have better ride comfort. The Yaris will be priced lower, hence it will be interesting to see how much of a market share will it grab from the Honda City.
