Maruti Concept Future S will be an exciting car to look at when it takes production form. Maruti has been really secretive about this topic as of now. The market leader targets to re-define compact car design language with Concept Future S. A few design cues from the sketch reveal an upright stance, commanding higher seating and ground clearance, horizontal hood giving it a unique aggressive stance and posture.

The sketch exudes confidence and aggressive demeanour. The urban SUV image is put together by the bold and upright front, with a Unique A-pillar treatment, that playfully connects to the accent on the side sill, taut powerful shoulders and a raised rear volume to give a dynamic appeal.

Maruti Concept Future S – What is it?

Explaining Maruti Future S Mr CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The increasing preference for UVs and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for compact cars. Concept Future S could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future.” Maruti Suzuki design team feels that Concept Future S epitomizes the next level of design evolution in terms of design proportions. Then the body sculpting and stimulating fusion of bold patterns and superior accent colours.  It is a big step-up in design language.

Maruti Future S Concept – Production Model?

As the name says it is a concept, but the production version will be coming in for certain. From what we understand, this should make it into production by late 2019 or mid-2019. This will be a new hatchback, now, we aren’t certain if the Future S will be the new-gen Alto or will be an all-new product to counter the Kwid only. Yes, this will have an SUV-like stance, it will be a hatchback with rugged styling and it shall be offered good features. Now, if it is an all-new Alto? We cannot say at the moment.

The Maruti Future S could even be offered through the Nexa range of dealerships. Maruti had confirmed a year ago if its interest in the Kwid kind of vehicle and this is what it should be. The new-gen Future S design. This could be implemented into a more sober looking vehicle when it is launched. But the new Future S will be an extremely stylish looking vehicle that will offer SUV like looks. This will offer bells and whistles to counter the Kwid. So, it will offer a touchscreen system with Bluetooth and navigation too. When this vehicle will be launched it shall come with dual airbags and ABS as a standard feature. The Kwid also by then will be equipped with these features.

Maruti Future S Launch

While there is speculation that the car will come next year in 2019, we can rest assured that at that time there are more important launches that Maruti needs to handle. The Maruti Future S will come only in or after the year 2020. So there is quite a while to wait.

Maruti Future S Price in India

There are speculations that will new tallboy hatchback/SUV should be priced somewhere close to the Alto. We reckon this new vehicle will be priced somewhere close to Kwid. So, in the range of Rs 2.5 lakhs to Rs 4 lakhs (ex-showroom). Maruti will be offering this hatchback with a lot of features. The engines are likely to be 800cc and 1.0-litre offerings. In terms of features, it will be offering a little more than the Kwid in the Indian market.

Maruti Future S Design

If the Y1K concepts design language is anything to go by, this car will have a tall and wide stance. It will also opt for more curvy and flowing lines than a box look of the Brezza. The car will have certain touches that will pay homage to the Zen hatchback. Nimbleness and practicality will wrap together to give us a very smart package. The boot space will be adequate. Expect a high bonnet and good overall visibility. A maximum of 16-inch tyres should go on these.

Maruti Future S Features

By the time this car comes, it will have to have things like Auto headlamps, 2 airbags and rain sensing wipers as standard. We can expect cruise control, Android Auto, Apple Car Play, Mirror Link and a 5 –inch touch screen standard too. The car will have leather seats, a lot of cubby holes and smart storage. The Maruti Future S’ interior will have better materials and plastics used in it compared to present cars.

Maruti Future S Platform

This car will be made on the Heartect platform of Maruti. It will be used by the company to make sure weight and safety is in check. Maruti is making sure that the Heartect platform is used in everything in its line-up. The car will use a slightly modified version of the platform that is seen on the new Wagon R.

Maruti Future S Engines

From what it appears, this will be a Kwid competition. Hence, this Future S production model will be coming with the same set of engines like the Alto. So, there will be an 800cc engine three-cylinder engine that will churn close to 48bhp of power. Even 1.0-litre petrol too with about 65bhp of power on tap. Both these engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission and the bigger engine will even have an AMT also. One more thing about the Future S will be its higher ground clearance and rugged SUV like look to make it a lot more stylish and appealing.

Maruti Future S Competition

Mahindra has the KUV100. The upcoming Maruti Zen SUV will compete with the KUV100. There will also be cars from Hyundai, Renault, Datsun and Tata that will come and make this category interesting. Tata has the H2X which will be a serious competitor for this car.
