Mahindra & Mahindra has been a step ahead of the competition, when it comes to engine changes. Mahindra was the only maker than could introduce a 1.99-litre diesel engine during the diesel ban in NCR. Now, the company has started to work on a range of updates on its existing petrol engines. Mahindra will be getting three petrol engines into the BS-VI. These all will be more than 1.0-litre in displacement.

Some of these engines have been developed in partnership with Ssangyong as well. The upcoming new compact SUV S201, will confirmed have a petrol engine. There will be diesel and petrol both on offer. Apart from this, the Mahindra brand will be upgrading its current petrol engines to be BS-VI compliant. All the new petrol engines will have GDI – Gasoline Direct Injection, which will enhance the performance, mileage and bring down the carbon footprint. We are assuming it will be at the 2018 Auto Expo that the MPV will be showcased and the launch should happen by March 2018. This new MUV will be powered by an mHawk engine churning about 120bhp of power and will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This new multi-purpose vehicle will be a good fix for those who have the budget of the old Innova. Mahindra will not face any major competition in this segment, giving it an upper hand.
