Bajaj Dominar 200 – A cheaper and more economical alternative

Bajaj Dominar 400 2018

The Bajaj Dominar 200 will an exciting bike if it is ever brought into production. What will make it even more attractive, will be its price! With the Dominar 200, the company will to cash upon the growing popularity of the Dominar brand. Bajaj has always got multiple products under one brand umbrella. The Avenger got a 150cc, the V15 got the V12, the Discover now has a 110cc engine. The Pulsar brand also has different models in its gamut. The Avenger is also set to get the Dominar400’s engine. The Dominar 200 would be a step in the right direction if the company wants to make the Dominar more popular.

Same as in the case of KTM, a younger sibling in the Dominar family may also be seen. The current Dominar has a 373cc engine. It is a feature loaded bike.  The 200cc will see a reduction in features. There will be slimmer tyres on offer. The ride and handling though will remain similar. This will get the 200cc fuel-injection powertrain, which is used on the Pulsar RS 200. Instead of a dual channel ABS, it may get a single one. The slipper clutch also will not make it to this bike. The Dominar 200 is expected to be aggressively priced. It will be economical to manufacture as it will use the same chassis of the Dominar 400. In terms of features and pricing, what to expect? Read further to know more about it.

Bajaj Dominar 200 – good idea?

The Bajaj Dominar 200 is most likely the next bike from the Dominar range. A smaller capacity Dominar is likely to be launched. Why? The reason is not complicated. Bajaj already has the 200cc engine, derived from KTM. Just as the 373cc engine of the Dominar 400 which also powers the Duke 390. This new bike will also be priced lower. Thus, it will attract many new buyers. The launch of this bike is expected next year. Bajaj would do good to expand the Dominar brand with multiple models. More visibility on the roads will be beneficial for Bajaj. The Dominar 400 is is already a successful motorcycle now. Its selling well after a brief dull period. The launch of the Dominar 400 was big step up for Bajaj Auto, as this was their first motorcycle beyond 200cc. The Dominar has been a worthy challenger to the Royal Enfield bikes.

Bajaj Dominar 200 Price in India

Dominar 200 Price Rs 1.23 lakhs (On-road)

The likely price of the Bajaj Dominar 200 bike is expected to be in the range of Rs 1.1 lakhs to Rs 1.2 lakhs. This will be cheaper than the RS 200 most likely. The number of features will be less and also the ABS will be only a single channel one. A smaller engine on the Dominar is a good approach and will help the company to garner more sales volumes. Dominar will not get all the features of the 400cc version and Bajaj will look at pricing it aggressively to make it more exciting. Features like ABS will be standard.

Power 20bhp
Torque 16Nm

The Bajaj Dominar 200 will share its engine with the Pulsar RS 200. The engine will have fuel injection but the power will be lesser than the 400. The performance will be tweaked to offer more torque at a lower rpm, as opposed to the RS 200. The power will be reduced and the torque will be increased. The tuning of the Dominar 200 will be different as compared to the RS 200. This is a cruiser, hence, the tuning of the engine will be done accordingly. This engine will be mated to a six-speed transmission. The gearbox will be the same as on the Pulsar 200cc bikes. The exhaust note will also be a bit deeper. The overall wight of the bike is going to certainly reduce.

Bajaj Dominar 200 Features

Some features will give it a skip on the 200cc version of the Bajaj bike. This is a cruiser bike and hence the smaller engine will get single-channel ABS. The Dual channel ABS will not make it on this bike. The LED headlamps also will be skipped. There will be the same suspension set-up offered. The instrument cluster will also be the same digital unit. The LED tail lamp will be borrowed from the Bajaj Dominar 400.

  • Projector headlamp
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Single-channel ABS
  • Split grab rails
  • Cruiser seating and handlebars
  • Disc brakes front and rear
  • Single channel ABS

Bajaj Dominar 200

Bajaj Dominar 200 Brakes and Suspension

Suspension (front/rear) Telescopic forks/Nitrox monoshock
Brakes (front/rear) Single 280mm disc with ABS/Single 230mm disc

The brakes and suspension will be the same on the Bajaj Dominar 200. Just that Bajaj will offer it with single channel ABS instead of dual. The Bajaj Dominar 200 shall be more affordable than most of the 200cc bikes. This will give it a price advantage. The same suspension means better ride and handling. The chassis can handle a lot more power and torque than the 200cc engine. The suspension will perform even better as the engine is smaller and lighter. The tyres will be thinner for better performance and mileage. Overall, handling should get better. Riders will feel more confident pushing this bike to the limits.

Bajaj Dominar 200 Design

The Dominar will continue its aggressive stance. It will look big and mencing in rearview mirrors. It will have a good road presence. There will have a large headlamp, stylish daytime running LEDs will be a part of the package. The stylish and muscular look of the bike will remain. The fuel tank size may reduce, but it is too early to talk about it. The tyres will be slimmer and it amy also get a different set of alloy wheels. This will reduce the cost as well. The Bajaj Dominar 200 will gets different LEDs on the headlamp, just a regular bulb with daytime running LEDs mostly. The LED headlamp is expensive. The tail lamps will be the same and the dimensions too will not change. Bajaj Dominar 200 will continue to look good hopefully, despite it loosing on features.

Maruti Wagon R Electric will be under Rs 7 lakhs

Wagon R electric testing

There are electric cars that one can purchase in India at this moment. But ownership is not that simple. There are still some problems like – lack of charging stations, life of the lithium-ion battery and the cost of owning one. But Maruti is planning to make the Maruti Wagon R Electric affordable with the price of this car coming around Rs 7 lakhs (On-road Mumbai) with the current subsidies in place. The car is also turning out to be more attractive with a 200km range. Sounds unreal. With this Maruti could kickstart an entire electric trend in India.

Currently, Maruti has got a fleet of electric cars on testing already. To know more about the Maruti Wagon R Electric scroll down.

Maruti Wagon R Electric How Will It Work?

With it’s logistical prowess and huge network of dealers/service stations, Maruti will make the Wagon R Electric the first Indian mass produced and sold EV. The new WagonR with its electric version is slated to launch in India by 2020. The Maruti WagonR Electric will be developed in partnership with Toyota. Toyota in return will be selling the Brezza and the Balano as rebadged as a Toyota compact SUVs and hatchbacks. The Wagon R Electric will be the first Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MISL) vehicle to offer an electric power-train.

The cars testing has already begun. Maruti is making sure that this EV is ready to tackle the Indian terrain with ease. Around 50 cars are undergoing testing and are getting fine-tuned.

New Maruti Wagon R 2018

Maruti Wagon R Electric EV Facts

Now with that out of the way, we must tell you some more facts about EVs in India.

  • India is still a nation that gets 90% of its energy from non-renewable resources. EVs cannot show a ‘clean car’ image in this environment.
  • Coal plants are a major resource and generate a lot of electricity. After this comes petroleum and natural and biogas.
  • The government has announced a subsidy for EVs but has not yet drafted a law or passed it through the Ministry of Expenditure.
  • Lithium-ion batteries are not cheap. Batteries can cost up to INR 2-3 lakhs and prices seem to not go down soon in the future.
  • Buyers of EVs have a minuscule fuel cost compared to run a car with a combustion engine.
  • But the time taken to recover the money is huge.
  • Then there is the lack of infrastructure that needs to aid EVs when it comes to charging.
  • India is a big nation and range anxiety is a problem that many people will face when they want to commute long distances in their electric cars.

Maruti Wagon R 2018 rea

Maruti Wagon R Electric Design and Interiors

The car will be made with a great number of design inputs from the Maruti Wagon R. The car will get premium design touches and will be on a different level in terms of safety, features and specifications when compared to the regular or current Wagon R. There will be a more informative instrument cluster and a better infotainment setup. The car will get plush leather seats and automatic climate control.

Wagon R electric testing

Finally, with all these points and the imminent launch of EVs in the Indian market, we should make sure that before they get here the infrastructure is in place. Maruti Suzuki’s plan to launch the car in 2020 means that they obviously must have thought about these problems. The government under pressure from the NGT(National Green Tribunal) has declared that by 2030 India has to go full electric.

How much of this will materialise? Are internal combustion engines seeing their last days in India? I don’t think so. But all of this does means EVs on city streets will be a common sight in the future.

Maruti Wagon R Electric
  • Design
  • Practicality

The Wagon R Electric is going to be Maruti’s first electric car launched in India. It is slated to be launched in 2020.

The Yamaha MT-15 is basically the naked version of the popular Yamaha R15 v3.0. The new motorcycle is expected to be priced around Rs 1.2 lakh to 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete against the new KTM 125 Duke.

The bike’s estimated pricing will be around Rs 1.2 lakhs. This bike will target the Apache 180 and the KTM Duke 125. Yamaha will make sure the pricing is aggressive and leave a lot of stuff for accessories and make the bike more customizable.

2019 Yamaha MT-15 Design

Test mules of the 2019 Yamaha MT-15 have been spotted testing in India and have given us a fair bit of idea. The design of the bike is the same as the one sold in the international market. The seat is also the same, and the headlight silhouette indicates the bike gets the same LED unit as the Thai-spec bike. However, Yamaha has chosen to go with telescopic forks up front and a box-section swingarm at the rear. This has been done to keep prices in check. The one in the Thailand market gets inverted forks and an aluminum swingarm. The alloy wheels in the India-spec bike are also taken from the R15 v3.0 which is again a cost-effective measure.
