Kia Picanto – new hatchback for India

Kia is coming to india in a big way. The plant is almost ready and the company will be rolling out products from 2019.

One of the early products from this Korean maker will be the Kia Picanto. The 2018 Picanto has recently been revealed and will be going sale soon in Europe. This is the third generation of the Picanto. The Picanto is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Grand i10.

This will be an important product for Kia in India.

New Kia Picanto Launch Date

The Kia Picanto will be launched by late 2019 in India. The dealer network of the company will also be ready by then and will be the right time to introduce its products. The Picanto will offer a good option to hatchback buyers.

Kia Picanto Price in India

The Picanto is expected to be priced between INR 5.0 lakhs to INR 8.0 lakhs. At this price it will compete with the Maruti Swift mainly. It will also compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Volkswagen Polo.

Design

The New Kia Picanto has got a sporty styling. It is aggressive in its approach too. . The front grille has been derived from the Cee’d, in fact the fascia resembles a smaller version.

daytime running LEDs are present in the headlamp. The higher variants will get smoked headlamps to make it look more appealing. The bumper has a front spoiler like design too. The new Picanto is flatter and not a tall bot. This is why it looks sports as well. 

The rear also looks sharp with a spoiler and the aggressive looking bumper. The tail lamps will have LEDs and there seems to be a sporty version that will have dual exhausts. The C-shaped tail lamps are seen for the first time. The reflector design also looks trendy. It gets 16-inch sporty looking diamond cut alloy wheels.

Interior

It gets clean and fresh looking interiors. An uncluttered design is a reason why the interiors look bigger and more airy. The Picanto gets all-new interiors this time. The design is contemporary and quite different from competition. A large touchscreen system sits at the centre and the AC vents are placed below it. The side AC vents are vertical and this looks fresh. The instrument cluster consists of twin dials with driver information system sandwiched in the centre. The three-spoke steering wheel will have multiple controls on it. There will an automatic climate control on offer too. The interiors will be very practical as they will offer a good number of stowage spaces.

Engines

The Kia Picanto 2017, which is new car, shall be offered with a 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. The 1.0-litre engine will churn out a power of 98bhp and this shall be coming with six-speed manual transmission and even an automatic as an option. The 1.2-litre petrol will be producing about 82bhp of power and will get a five-speed manual transmission. This is the one that will make it into India as well. 

There will also be a 1.2-litre 3-cyinder diesel engine on offer. This will produce around 75bhp of power. But the company will focus more on the petrol engine. This is where the maximum sales will come from. This diesel engine is the one which also powers the Hyundai Grand i10.

 Kia Picanto Mileage 

The Picanto will be a fuel efficient car. In real driving conditions the petrol should return around 12km/l in city and 17km/l on the highway. The automatic should return around 10km/l in the city and 15km/l on the highway. The diesel will be more efficient with 14 km/l and 21km/l of mileage in the city and the highway, respectively.
