Renault Kwid Climber launched for INR 4.8 lakhs (on-road, New Delhi)

Renault’s Kwid success story isn’t alien to anyone of us. The hatchback might be in the entry-level, but it does look like an SUV. It has high ground clearance, two engine options, rugged looks and features that have revolutionised the segment. So, what does the new Renault Kwid Climber have on offer? Is it more features? Renault Kwid Climber Price in India

The hatch in the Climber version is made available with 1.0-litre manual and AMT options. This one only comes with RxT trim. So, there are only two variants on the hatchback. The Kwid Climber doesn’t come with the 80cc engine at the moment, maybe in the near future but we cannot assure anything if it will even come.

Renault Kwid Climber Mileage

The Renault Kwid Climber manual has an ARAI mileage of 23.03 km/l, while the AMT has an average of 24.04 km/l. The real world mileage in city is about 16-19 km/l and about 20-23 km/l on the highway.

Renault Kwid Climber Colours

The Renault Kwid Climber will made available in three shades. The first is the electric blue, which will be an exclusive shade for the hatchback. Then there is the Outback Bronze and Planet Grey, which are the other shades available in this list.

Renault Kwid Climber Design

The Climber is more of a tough looking off road kind of hatchback. There are roof rails, matte colour and again some blue colour inserts in the form of paint and vinyl on the Kwid. This one was showcased at the Auto Expo. The new TVC showcases an all new blue colour, with orange colour used on the roof rails, wing mirrors and even the front of the car. There were more changes showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, which we reckon won’t be making the production version. This has been done to keep the cost low of this vehicle. In this way, Renault is looking at enhancing its product portfolio and offer more options to the Kwid buyers.

Renault Kwid Climber Interiors

The concept version had white interiors and this looks different from the Kwid Racer or even the regular version. This entry-level hatchback in its Climber version looks appealing. The alloy wheels on the Climber version are different from the regular hatch. This was what was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, however it won’t be getting any of this. In fact, what Renault will offer the interiors with orange inserts. The fabric seats will be black with orange piping, then there shall be orange piping on the dashboard too. For the manual version, there will be an orange-colour gear knob. The AMT version shall have orange surround on the gear rotor. There are orange perforators on the steering wheel. The wheel even has Climber Insignia. The side air vents also get orange surrounds.

The same digital instrument cluster continues on the Renault Kwid Climber. This has comfortable space for tall people in the front and the rear row. This is what makes the Kwid different from the rest. A touchscreen infotainment system is also provided on the Kwid, it has bluetooth and even navigation. At the same time, the hatch retains a large boot with 300 litres of volume, making it the largest offering in its segment. There aren’t many major changes on the Kwid Climber and most of the customisation options are available on the Kwid App. So, a buyer can choose to have a different pattern also. This makes the Kwid Climber a good option to consider only if you are happy with this styling.

Renault Kwid Climber Engine and Transmission

Renault is offering this version with the 1.0-litre petrol engine only. This will be offered along with a five-speed manual and AMT options. The Kwid 1.0 is a powerful engine and there are no mechanical changes, the power is similar. The Kwid 1.0 has good power and easy to drive. The need to shift gears isn’t very often even in city driving. This is what is a good and strong point for the Kwid. The AMT version frees up the space, adding some more stowage space in the car. The engine has good power and what works well for it is the performance. The clutch too is light on the manual with a smooth and short shifting gearbox.

Renault Kwid Climber Ride and Handling

The ride of the Kwid is certainly one of its strongest points. This hatchback has a ride quality, superior to all its competition and it can be compared to a segment above it. The tini-mini hatchback glides through potholes without any stress. The Renault Kwid Climber retains these qualities as well. The handling of this hatchback is also good enough. It can be compared to once again, a segment above it. The steering wheel is light and easy to manoeuvre in city and has sufficient feedback at high speeds. The Kwid is a lot more composed than its competition.
